Job summary

Fossil Group, Inc. in Barcelona is seeking a driven data engineering intern to help build Gen AI pipelines, data governance, and embedding workflows. You will gain hands-on experience with vector search, RAG architectures, and analytics in a global enterprise setting.

You will collaborate with senior data scientists and AI/ML engineers, contribute to data ingestion, and participate in Agile/Waterfall development within a dynamic, international team in Barcelona.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Advanced SQL capabilities alongside solid expertise in relational and dimensional database design.
• Familiarity with enterprise data management practices, ingestion methodologies, and foundational knowledge of ETL versus ELT frameworks.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset with demonstrated self‑direction, high accountability, and strong task management skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication capabilities in English.
• Nice to have: Python, vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Chroma, Vertex AI Vector Search), LLM orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex), and BI tools.

Responsibilities

• Gain hands‑on experience preparing structured and unstructured data to build modern Gen AI pipelines, including Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures and embedding ingestion workflows.
• Perform data exploration, analysis, prompt context dataset curation, database modeling, and stewardship activities to support automated task execution.
• Assist senior engineers in connecting to internal and external data sources, database administration, and applying software development lifecycle best practices.
• Support data integration and vector processing workflows across our global enterprise ecosystem.
• Support data governance initiatives by helping establish guidelines for data privacy, cataloging, classification, and responsible AI practices.
• Ensure data hygiene and alignment with enterprise security frameworks.
• Collaborate closely with senior data scientists, AI/ML engineers, and global business stakeholders to learn and implement industry best practices.
• Participate in Agile/Waterfall product delivery iterations to build scalable analytics and AI solutions.

• Будет плюсом: Strong programming proficiency in Python (or equivalent) along with shell scripting expertise in Linux environments; Experience or familiarity with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Chroma, Vertex AI Vector Search), LLM orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex), and RAG/embedding workflows; Practical experience with modern analytical databases (e.g., BigQuery, Dataproc, Snowflake, PrestoDB, MySQL, Spark), BI tools (Tableau, Power BI), and API‑driven integrations (Postman, MOVEit, WS FTP); Exposure to CDPs (e.g., Segment, Amperity) or ESP platforms (e.g., Bloomreach) is a distinct advantage.

• This is a temporary (12-month contract), hybrid internship position based in our Barcelona office.
• You will be required to work onsite from Monday through Thursday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Fridays.
