Job summary

Flanks, a Barcelona-based fintech startup, is hiring a Mid-Level Backend Engineer to design, build, and optimize data pipelines and backend services powering a data-driven platform. You will own data ingestion, transformation, and the end-to-end lifecycle from business requirements to production deployment.

Ideal candidates have strong Python and/or JavaScript skills, experience with ETL/ELT pipelines, and familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases.

Qualifications

• Strong Python and/or JavaScript engineering skills with a focus on performance and maintainability.
• Experience building and operating data pipelines (ETL/ELT) or backend services for a product, with exposure to Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization.
• Autonomy to take a high-level requirement and drive it to production without heavy hand-holding.
• Experience with CI/CD workflows and containerization (Docker or similar).
• Willingness to understand financial data and learn financial markets context.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from multiple sources.
• Write clean, efficient Python code focused on performance and reliable data handling.
• Collaborate on database schema design (SQL and NoSQL) and optimize queries for speed and accuracy.
• Implement unit tests, integration tests, and data quality checks to ensure pipeline integrity.
• Deploy and iterate pipelines using CI/CD practices and Docker, participating in code reviews.
