Job summary

EU Business School SA in Barcelona is seeking an AP Accounting Specialist to safeguard the campus financial backbone. This hands-on, second-in-command role oversees the full Accounts Payable cycle, tax compliance, and payroll entries in a fast-paced academic setting.

You will lead AP and accounting, drive automation, ensure tax and reporting accuracy under Spanish PGC, and collaborate across finance and operations.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in AP and monthly/ yearly closures.
• Advanced Excel skills for financial reporting and modelling.
• Proficiency with Sage X3 and English/Spanish language requirements.

The Role

The AP Accounting Specialist will be responsible for the integrity of the Barcelona campus’s financial backbone. This role is a highly hands‑on, second‑in‑command position designed for a patient, resilient professional who thrives in a demanding, fast‑paced environment. The successful candidate will oversee the full cycle of Accounts Payable process, from tax compliance to executing payroll entries.

1) Strategic Leadership & Departmental Management

• Operational Autonomy: Lead the AP and Accounting function with a results‑oriented mindset, ensuring all financial KPIs are met without the need for constant supervision.
• Digital Transformation:Proactively identify opportunities for automation and process optimization within the accounting function to drive institutional efficiency.
• Team Stewardship: Cultivate a high‑performing environment by fostering professional growth and maintaining departmental accountability.

2) Financial Operations & Compliance

• Full‑Cycle Accounting:Execute month‑end and year‑end closing procedures with absolute precision, ensuring the integrity of the General Ledger.
• Accounts Payable Governance: Validate and process supplier invoices via Sage X3, ensuring rigorous adherence to approval workflows and maintaining an accurate aging report.
• Fiscal Compliance: Oversee tax obligations and support external audit requirements in full alignment with Spanish PGC (Plan General Contable) and corporate regulations.
• Payroll & Treasury: Manage the accounting entries for payroll execution and co‑lead daily treasury operations, including cash flow monitoring and bank reconciliations.

3) Data Integrity & Reporting

• Advanced Analytical Modelling: Utilize complex Excel workbooks to deliver structured financial reporting and data‑driven insights for executive decision‑making.
• Policy Enforcement: Uphold all internal corporate governance and company regulations, specifically regarding employee travel and expense management.
• Cross‑Functional Continuity: Provide essential support to the Accounts Receivable department when necessary to ensure total operational coverage.

About You

• Experience: Experience in AP and accounting, including at least two years experience of executing monthly and yearly closures.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional patience, steadfast resilience, and a highly analytical mindset are mandatory to successfully navigate the demanding workload of this role.
• Education: University degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Software Proficiency: Knowledge of Sage X3 and Excel (complex formulas, data modelling, and pivot tables) is strictly required.
• Language Skills: Advance proficiency in English (corporate language) and Spanish (regulatory and supplier interactions).
