TravelPerk is seeking a Data Engineer to design and develop scalable data workflows. The successful candidate will transform raw data into accurate visualisations and enhance data quality through thorough testing and optimisation.

Applicants should have a strong background in SQL and dbt, and experience with cloud data warehouses. This role is based in Barcelona and supports remote work arrangements.

• 3+ years of experience in a data-focused role (Analytics Engineer, Data Analyst, BI Developer, etc.).
• Expert-level proficiency in writing and optimising complex SQL queries.
• Hands-on experience with dbt or a similar data transformation framework.
• Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Google BigQuery, or Amazon Redshift.

Overview

This role sits at the intersection of Data Engineering and Data Analytics, transforming raw data into high‑quality, trustworthy datasets and visualisations for business users. The ideal candidate has strong experience in SQL, dbt, data modelling, ETL/ELT principles, and modern cloud data platforms.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain ELT transformation best practices: Design, develop, and maintain scalable workflows using dbt to transform raw data in Snowflake into clean, ready‑to‑use data models.
• Data Modelling: Apply best‑practice data modelling and engineering techniques to optimise data structures for performance, accuracy, and usability in reporting and analytics.
• Data Quality and Testing: Write comprehensive data quality checks, tests, and monitoring scripts; establish and maintain documentation for all transformations and models.
• Collaboration: Work closely with Data Analysts and business users to understand reporting needs and optimise data models; collaborate with Data Engineers on ingestion strategies and platform optimisation.
• Performance Optimisation: Tune and optimise SQL queries and data models to reduce latency and improve warehouse and downstream application performance.
• Tool Adoption: Champion adoption of modern data stack tools and practices, including Git and CI/CD.
• Data Visualisation: Build scalable, compelling Looker visualisations that can be used by large teams.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in a data‑focused role (Analytics Engineer, Data Analyst, BI Developer, etc.).
• Expert‑level proficiency in writing and optimising complex SQL queries.
• Hands‑on experience with dbt or a similar data transformation framework.
• Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Google BigQuery, or Amazon Redshift.
• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT principles, and dimensional modelling techniques.
• Proficiency with Git for collaborative development and version control.
• Familiarity with reporting/BI tools such as Looker.

Preferred Qualifications

• Python expertise for automation, integration, and orchestration.
• Experience with semantic layers.
• Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow.
• Knowledge of modern software engineering practices applied to data (modularity, code review, testing).

Location & Relocation

This role requires the candidate to be based within commuting distance of our London or Barcelona hub. We can assist with relocation from anywhere in the world. English is the official language at the office.
