Job summary

Elsevier is seeking an in-house Senior Editor (Maternity cover) to oversee the creation and publication of original material for The Lancet Primary Care online journal. You will manage submissions, lead peer review, and build relationships with the global primary care community.

Based in London, Barcelona, India or China, the role offers hybrid working with flexible hours and a commitment to diversity. You will work to publish high-quality content and develop initiatives for the journal's future.

Qualifications

• MD/PhD with postdoc experience or postgraduate degree with editorial experience.
• Thorough knowledge of biological and medical sciences and broader social issues in Primary care.
• Ability to engage external stakeholders, including medical/research professionals and media.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet demanding deadlines.
• Excellent command of English and engaging writing style.
• Proficiency with IT systems including MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Manage peer review of high-quality research papers and commission authors.
• Develop and maintain relationships with the global primary care community to attract high-quality research.
• Attend conferences and events to represent the journal and identify topics of interest.

About the Role

As an in-house Senior Editor, you will oversee the creation and publication of original material for our online journal. You will take ownership of overseeing submissions and performing quality peer review to ensure we publish high-quality content. You will build global relationships with experts in the community to disseminate and discuss practice-changing results from the field.

Responsibilities

• Managing peer review of high-quality research papers, and commissioning authors to ensure the successful production of new and engaging articles
• Developing and maintaining relationships with our global primary care community to attract high-quality research for the journal
• Attending conferences and events to represent the journal, keeping up to date with current developments in primary care and identifying potential topics of interest
• Writing editorials and other content for the journal as required.
• Helping develop new initiatives for future development of the journal

Requirements

• An MD or PhD with postdoctoral experience in a relevant subject, or, a postgraduate higher degree in a relevant discipline plus substantial editorial experience at a senior level on a peer reviewed STM journal
• Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of biological and medical sciences and broader social issues pertaining to Primary care
• Ability to engage and build relationships with external stakeholders, including medical and research professionals, a range of internal teams, and members of the media
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently to demanding press deadlines
• Excellent command of the English language and the ability to write in an engaging and interesting manner
• Proficiency with IT systems including MS Office
