Job summary

Role Purpose

The role supports the development, qualification, and execution of welding activities for structural components in railway applications (MIG, TIG, FSW). It combines deep technical welding expertise with strong knowledge of railway standards and quality requirements. The role ensures compliance with railway standards such as EN 15085, ISO 3834, and other quality, HSE, and customer standards. It also supports the automotive sector by selecting technology, evaluating cost, planning, and advising production sites.

What you will be doing
  • Support feasibility assessments for welding during RFQs and project phases
  • Develop and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and qualifications
  • Define and optimise welding parameters in collaboration with production teams
  • Ensure compliance with key standards (EN 15085, ISO 3834) and customer requirements
  • Provide on‑site technical support and troubleshoot welding issues
  • Lead root cause analyses for defects and support continuous improvement
  • Define inspection and testing plans and support audits and certifications
  • Guide production sites on welding technologies, industrialisation, and best practices
What will make you successful
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or related field
  • Certified Welding Engineer qualification (IWE/EWE)
  • Strong hands‑on experience in welding (MIG, TIG, FSW), ideally in rail or aluminium environments
  • Knowledge of railway welding standards and quality requirements
  • Understanding of aluminium materials (especially 6xxx alloys) and manufacturing processes
  • Strong analytical skills and a structured, problem‑solving mindset
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams and functions
  • Fluent English (German/French is an advantage)
