Location: Kalundborg, Denmark

Are you a highly motivated student who has interest in applying operation research and process systems engineering to solving existing as well as new challenges? Are you eager to apply theory to practice and directly have influence on operation management and supply chain optimization? If so, we offer an exciting and fun student job position.

Your new role

As a Student Assistant, you will become part of a highly specialised optimisation team supporting manufacturing and pharmaceutical supply chain within Novo Nordisk’s production. Your main tasks will vary but will focus on mathematical programming (MILP) for supply chain analysis, capacity planning, production planning & scheduling.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting optimisation projects focused on data analysis, capacity planning, production planning, and scheduling.
  • Developing and applying mathematical models, including mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) and related optimisation methodologies.
  • Contributing to digital development and other advanced modelling initiatives within manufacturing operations.
  • Analysing operational and production data to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and decision-making.

Since the nature of the job is student based, you will also have the opportunity to develop and learn how to apply R&D based concepts into real-world application using knowledge that you have and will gain from an academic degree. Furthermore, you will gain experience in working in a global company, manufacturing environment and how data can be utilized with the current trend of industry 4.0. Therefore, you will be part of an organization that values creativity, innovation and the ability to work with people with different backgrounds.

Your new department

You will be a part of Novo Nordisk manufacturing, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (GMS API) and assigned to Manufacturing 1 (M1), the world’s largest Insulin manufacturing facility located in Kalundborg. M1 has 5 facilities operating under one roof. You will be employed in M1 Bioprocess Improvement-Optimization (M1BIO), a group of 8 highly skilled colleagues plus MSc students all working with advanced process modelling, simulation, analysis, control and optimization for representation of (bio-) chemical digital twins and the pharmaceutical supply chain. We enjoy a trustful, inclusive and enthusiastic work environment, we are good at supporting each other, and we look forward to making you feel welcome here.

Your skills and qualifications

We are looking for a student with a strong analytical mindset and a genuine interest in optimisation, modelling, and supply chain management.

To succeed in this role, you should:

  • Be enrolled in an MSc programme at a Danish university within Industrial Engineering and Management, Business Analytics, Mathematical Modelling, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Have at least two semesters remaining in your studies.
  • Focus area of studies: mathematical modelling, optimization, supply chain, operation research and/or data analysis.
  • Solid understanding of mathematical programming (python, pyomo, Gurobi or similar)

Coupled with the above, you enjoy solving complex problems applying a systems approach to manage complexity and arrive at solutions that can be applied in an industrial manufacturing supply chain.
