Job summary

FOSS seeks a Solution Architect for R&D Digital Solutions to own end-to-end architecture across instrument software, cloud offerings and on-prem deployments. You will translate customer needs into scalable designs, emphasizing security and cost-quality trade-offs.

You will work closely with R&D, Service, Production & Supply Chain and Marketing, shaping agentic capabilities and AI integration in our digital products.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience with 3+ years in an architecture role.
• Strong technical background in computer science or engineering.
• Proven experience designing distributed solutions across cloud and on-premises.

Responsibilities

What you will be doing

We are looking for a Solution Architect for R&D Digital Solutions. You will report directly to the Director of Digital Solutions and own the end-to-end architecture of our solutions – across instrument software, cloud offerings and on-premises deployments. This is an individual-contributor role with a cross-team / cross solution focus.

Your primary role is to translate customer needs, business goals and product requirements into solution designs that are buildable, secure and scalable. You make the trade-offs between cost, time and quality explicit and visual, you are engaged early in projects, and you make sure the teams, the product owners and the Programs organization share the same technical picture. A central part of the agenda is agentic: designing how AI agents become a built-in part of how FOSS helps our customers, safely integrated with our data, our platforms and our customers’ systems.

You will be based at FOSS’ Innovation Center in Hillerød, working closely with internal stakeholders in R&D, Service, Production & Supply chain, and Marketing amongst others.

Your responsibilities include:

• Owning the design of solution architecture for Digital Solutions products, from early business identification and concept through customer trials, launch and market implementation
• Designing the architecture for agentic capabilities, AI agents for customer configuration, system integration and expert advice on analytical results, including guardrails and data access.
• Ensuring solutions meet defined security, cybersecurity regulation and scalability requirements across cloud and on-premises deployments
• Defining how our solutions integrate with customer and third-party systems (e.g. LIMS, ERP, process control) and with our instrument and cloud platforms
• Working with the teams integrating architectural decisions into our SW Factory (Harness engineering), so architecture supports small, frequent and reliable releases with automation
• Running architecture and design reviews, documenting decisions, and keeping technical debt visible
• Collaboration with Principal Engineers, operations/infrastructure architect, platform stewards, product owners and project managers
• Advising the Director of Digital Solutions on technology choices, build-vs-buy and partner options

What we hope to see you bring

We expect that you join us with:

• 8+ years of software development experience, of which at least 3 years in an architect role (solution, software or platform) in complex organizations
• A strong technical background (e.g., Engineer, MSc in Computer Science, or equivalent)
• Proven experience designing distributed solutions across cloud (preferably Azure) and on-premises, including integration patterns, and data flows
• Hands-on experience with AI development and LLM-based systems. Hands-on agentic development is a plus
• Excellent communication skills in English, written and verbal – you can explain a design to a developer, a product owner and a customer
• Experience working with instrument or device-connectivity at architectural level

Within your first 3 months, you have delivered your first approved solution design.

You are the person teams and product owners seek out when a solution must fit together, and the Director of Digital Solutions relies on your advice for technology and investment choices. At the same time, you raise the architectural skills of the engineers around you.
