Job description

About the role

As a Senior Observability Engineer at Saxo, you will join a specialised team responsible for the bank’s observability platforms. We build and continuously improve solutions that provide visibility into the performance, stability, and health of critical business systems across our hybrid infrastructure.

You will help shape the future of Saxo’s observability landscape by designing and operating solutions for metrics, logs, traces, and events across cloud and on-premises environments. Your work will enable engineering teams to better understand, monitor, and improve the systems that power Saxo.

Team perspective

“We are the eyes and ears of Saxo Bank’s platform health. Our work is critical to maintaining stable and continuous operations across the organisation.

Our team is based in Denmark and India and consists of five specialists. While supporting our current platforms, we are also executing our roadmap for the next generation of observability capabilities.”

Responsibilities
  • Own and support the day-to-day operation of Saxo’s observability platform.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to deliver meaningful monitoring and visibility across business‑critical systems.
  • Drive priorities, technical direction, and platform improvements within the team.
  • Act as the observability platform architect, ensuring scalability, reliability, and long‑term maintainability.
  • Play a key role in delivering the next generation of Saxo’s observability platform in collaboration with Enterprise Architecture, platform teams, and business stakeholders.
What success looks like
  • Build expertise across our observability ecosystem, including Elastic, Grafana, Kibana, Kubernetes, SCOM, and Windows Server.
  • Improve visibility, reliability, and operational efficiency by reducing alert noise, enhancing dashboards, and driving actionable insights.
  • Define and promote standards for logging, metrics, dashboards, and alerting.
  • Collaborate with engineering, platform, and security teams to ensure observability is embedded across solutions.
  • Lead incident investigations, contribute to post‑mortems, and turn lessons learned into platform improvements.
  • Optimise platform performance, scalability, and cost.
  • Share knowledge through documentation, best practices, and technical guidance across the organisation.
Your profile

You have 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or a similar role, with a strong focus on observability.

You bring hands‑on experience with observability technologies such as:

  • Metrics: Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic, or similar.
  • Logging: Elastic Stack, Splunk, Loki, Cloud Logging, or similar.
  • Tracing: OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, Zipkin, X‑Ray, or equivalent tracing solutions.

You also have experience with:

  • SRE practices, including SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, and incident management.
  • Distributed systems and cloud-native architectures.
  • Operating and optimising Elastic Stack in production environments.
  • Grafana and Kibana for dashboarding, visualisation, and alerting.
  • Windows Server administration and monitoring, ideally including SCOM.
  • Public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Kubernetes, Docker, and container‑based environments.
  • Infrastructure‑as‑Code and CI/CD tooling (Terraform, Helm, CloudFormation, Pulumi, GitOps, etc.).
  • Scripting or development experience in languages such as Java, Python, or Node.js.
