Our Environment, Climate and Sustainability team works across major infrastructure, industrial and built environment projects in Denmark and the wider European region. We combine local knowledge with international technical expertise to help clients navigate environmental risks, approvals and project delivery

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Environmental Planner to strengthen our Copenhagen team. You will help clients understand and navigate Danish planning, environmental assessment and consenting processes from the earliest stages of project development. As a Senior Environmental Planner at Arup, you will:

Lead local plan, strategic environmental assessment, environmental impact assessment and consenting workstreams, taking responsibility for scope, programme, quality, coordination and commercial delivery.

Give clients practical early advice on the route to consent, likely authority requirements, environmental risks, information needs, sequencing and realistic next steps.

Coordinate multidisciplinary technical inputs and maintain constructive relationships with municipalities, competent authorities, utilities, clients and other stakeholders.

Build trusted client relationships, contribute to proposals and help grow integrated environmental planning, assessment and consenting services in Denmark and across Europe.

Provide experienced guidance and review for developing colleagues, helping the team build stronger planning, permitting and EIA capability.

Does this role inspire you?

We are looking for someone who is motivated in translating regulatory requirements into an executable project plan . We also value:

At least 8 years of relevant experience in Danish spatial planning, environmental assessment or consenting, gained in consultancy, a public authority, a client organisation or a comparable setting.

Strong practical knowledge of local plans and Danish planning and environmental assessment processes, including screening, scoping, environmental impact assessment or strategic environmental assessment.

Experience developing integrated consenting strategies and advising on approvals, sequencing, documentation, authority engagement and programme risk.

A track record of leading planning, consenting or environmental assessment work on complex infrastructure, industrial, property or similar developments.

Strong project management, commercial awareness, client facing and stakeholder engagement skills.

A relevant degree in planning, environmental science, engineering, geography, biology or a related discipline, together with professional fluency in Danish and English.

Experience spanning both consultancy and a public authority or client organisation would be advantageous, but is not essential.
