Job description

HELP BUILD DENMARK'S FUTURE HYDROGEN INFRASTRUCTURE
Ballerup / Egtved

Denmark is undergoing a historic transformation of its energy system. As the owner and operator of Denmark's electricity and gas transmission infrastructure, Energinet plays a pivotal role in developing the solutions that will support the country's transition to a greener energy future.

One of Energinet's most ambitious projects is the establishment of the Danish Hydrogen Backbone – Denmark's future national hydrogen transmission infrastructure, designed to connect the production, consumption and export of green hydrogen. The project will play a vital role in both Denmark's and Europe's green transition and represents one of the country's most complex energy infrastructure projects today.

We are now looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to play a key role in this landmark project. Beyond contributing to the successful delivery of the Danish Hydrogen Backbone, we are looking for someone who is motivated by the opportunity to become a long-term part of Energinet and help shape Denmark's critical energy infrastructure for years to come.

Lead electrical engineering in a landmark energy infrastructure project

As part of the Engineering department in Gas Transmission, you will serve as the Electrical Engineering Discipline Lead for the Project Danish Hydrogen Backbone project.

You will play a key role in the development of the electrical systems for the project's hydrogen stations, where hydrogen will be received, regulated and transported safely. Acting as a key technical authority, you will contribute throughout the entire project lifecycle, from detailed design and technical clarification to construction, commissioning and handover to operations.

You will join a multidisciplinary project environment, working closely with specialists in Instrumentation, SCADA, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Technical Safety and Asset Management, as well as Energinet's international EPCM partner and other external consultants.

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the technical solutions in a project where quality, safety and long-term reliability are critical to success.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • acting as the Electrical Engineering Discipline Lead throughout the design, construction and commissioning phases
  • reviewing and approving technical solutions, drawings and engineering documentation
  • defining technical requirements and documentation standards
  • ensuring robust electrical solutions, including power supply systems, UPS, control panels, EMC, cable segregation, earthing and lightning protection
  • contributing to transient studies, emergency shutdown (ESD) strategies, Cause & Effect philosophies and system integrity
  • participating in FAT, SAT, commissioning and site supervision activities
  • ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, industry standards and ATEX requirements
You bring experience from large-scale and technically complex process or energy facilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer who has a proven track record of working on large-scale technical infrastructure projects and thrives in multidisciplinary environments where engineering disciplines, regulatory requirements and multiple stakeholders must come together.

You have at least five years of hands‑on experience with the design, construction and commissioning of electrical installations at major process, energy or industrial facilities operating under the ATEX Directive. You are accustomed to taking technical solutions from concept through to safe, reliable and operational installations, with practical experience across the entire project lifecycle – not just the design phase.

Your background may come from industries such as Power-to-X, refineries, biogas, oil and gas, process manufacturing or other large-scale energy and process facilities. Your specific industry background is less important than your experience delivering projects of a comparable size and technical complexity to the Danish Hydrogen Backbone.

In addition, we expect you:

  • have extensive experience with electrical installations in ATEX environments
  • have a solid understanding of Danish legislation, industry standards and regulatory requirements relevant to electrical installations
  • have experience performing technical reviews and preparing engineering documentation within complex EPC or EPCM projects
  • work in a structured and systematic manner and are comfortable taking technical ownership
  • communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing
  • are eligible to obtain Danish security clearance
  • hold a valid Category B driving licence

Danish does not need to be your native language. However, we expect you to have previous professional experience working in Denmark and to be familiar with the Danish regulatory framework and industry standards applicable to major technical facilities.

Join one of Denmark's leading engineering teams

You will become part of the Project Engineering department in Gas Transmission – a multidisciplinary engineering team comprising specialists in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and Instrumentation.

You will join a collaborative and highly technical environment where knowledge sharing, professional sparring and engineering excellence are integral to the way we work. At Energinet, you will have the opportunity to continuously develop your expertise through technically complex projects, internal specialist networks and close collaboration with some of the industry's most experienced engineers.

The position is based in either Ballerup or Egtved. During the current phase of the project, you should expect to spend one to two days per week at the project office in Ballerup, as well as undertaking occasional international travel to collaborate with project partners.

Ready to help shape the future of energy infrastructure?

At Energinet, you will become part of an organisation with a long-term perspective, where the solutions you help develop will play a vital role in Denmark's energy system for decades to come.

If you are motivated by technically complex projects, engineering excellence and the opportunity to contribute to the green transition through the development of critical energy infrastructure, we would love to hear from you.

At Energinet, we believe that diversity strengthens our organisation, and we encourage all qualified candidates to apply, regardless of background. We are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace and therefore encourage you to omit your photo, age, marital status and similar personal information from your application to help minimise unconscious bias throughout the recruitment process.
