Job summary

Robotto is seeking a Senior Computer Vision & AI Engineer to lead the perception stack for our drone and autonomy platform. You will own core CV algorithms, guide architecture, and collaborate across software, control and hardware teams to deliver robust, deployable solutions.

In this role you will design and optimize object detection, tracking, visual localisation and odometry, mentor engineers, and help shape our approach to edge deployment and real-world performance in fast-moving development

Job description

Senior Computer Vision & AI Engineer

At Robotto, we build advanced autonomy and software solutions for drones and unmanned systems. Our work brings together computer vision, edge computing, software, electronics and real-world product development.

We are looking for a Senior Computer Vision & AI Engineer to take a leading technical role in developing and improving the perception capabilities behind our drone platform.

You will work on challenging real-world problems where robust vision, accurate localisation and reliable performance matter. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys going beyond algorithms and prototypes to build computer-vision solutions that perform reliably in demanding real-world environments.

The role

You will join a highly technical engineering team working on autonomy for drones and unmanned systems.

You will take significant ownership of computer-vision capabilities supporting object detection, tracking, visual localisation, visual-inertial odometry and other perception-related challenges.

You will work closely with software, control, flight-test and electronics colleagues to turn computer-vision concepts into robust, deployable solutions.

As a senior engineer, you will also contribute to architecture and technical decisions, help strengthen engineering practices and share your experience with other engineers across the team.

What you will do
  • Design, develop, test and improve advanced computer-vision algorithms for Robotto’s drone and autonomy platform.
  • Take technical ownership of computer-vision problems from exploration and prototyping through implementation, evaluation and deployment.
  • Work with object detection, tracking, visual localisation, visual-inertial odometry, visual SLAM and related perception challenges.
  • Build robust solutions that can perform under changing environmental and operational conditions.
  • Optimise computer-vision solutions for deployment on edge and resource-constrained computing platforms.
  • Define appropriate datasets, test scenarios, evaluation methods and performance metrics.
  • Contribute to architecture and technical-design decisions across the perception stack.
  • Collaborate closely with software, control, flight-test and electronics engineers to integrate perception capabilities into the wider platform.
  • Investigate complex technical issues, validate results and drive practical improvements.
  • Contribute to code quality, testing, documentation and engineering practices.
  • Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to other engineers where relevant.
What success could look like in your first 3–6 months
  • You have developed a strong understanding of Robotto’s autonomy platform, architecture and computer-vision priorities.
  • You have taken ownership of one or more important perception challenges and are driving them towards robust solutions.
  • You have contributed meaningful improvements to areas such as object detection, tracking, localisation or visual-inertial odometry.
  • Your solutions are being evaluated against real-world data and operational scenarios.
  • You are contributing to architecture and technical decisions across the computer-vision stack.
  • You are collaborating effectively across computer vision, software, control and flight testing.
  • You have become a trusted senior technical contributor within the engineering team.
What we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced engineer with a strong computer-vision foundation and a track record of turning complex technical ideas into practical, working systems.

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience preferred, with significant hands-on expertise in computer vision, robotics, machine learning, autonomy or a closely related field.
  • Strong practical knowledge of computer vision, with experience in areas such as object detection, tracking, visual localisation, visual-inertial odometry, visual SLAM or related perception methods.
  • Strong C++ programming skills, with Python experience for algorithm development, experimentation, testing and prototyping.
  • Experience taking computer-vision or machine-learning solutions beyond research and prototyping into real products or deployed systems.
  • Experience designing, training and evaluating deep-learning models for computer-vision applications.
  • Experience deploying and optimising models or computer-vision algorithms on edge or resource-constrained computing platforms is highly relevant.
  • Strong understanding of algorithm evaluation, datasets, testing methodologies and measurable performance criteria.
  • Experience contributing to architecture or technical-design decisions within complex software or perception systems.
  • A good understanding of how vision systems interact with cameras, sensors, software, compute platforms and real-world environments.
  • Experience with drones, robotics, autonomous systems or embedded-adjacent software is a strong advantage.
  • Experience mentoring, supporting or sharing technical knowledge with other engineers is an advantage.
  • Professional fluency in English.
  • A degree in computer vision, robotics, computer science, engineering or a related technical field is preferred; equivalent industry or research experience is equally welcome.
Who you are

You are technically curious, analytical and comfortable taking ownership when the answer is not immediately obvious.

You enjoy going deep into difficult technical problems, while keeping sight of the goal: building technology that works reliably in the real world.

  • You take ownership of technical problems and drive them towards practical solutions.
  • You are comfortable making technical decisions and explaining the trade-offs behind them.
  • You challenge assumptions constructively and are willing to explore new approaches.
  • You care about robustness, testing and measurable performance.
  • You collaborate naturally across computer vision, software, control, electronics and flight testing.
  • You enjoy sharing knowledge and helping others solve difficult technical problems.
  • You are comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities evolve as the company and technology develop.

Minds and makers forging ahead together.

At Robotto, we value people who do. People who take ownership, are willing to try new things just to see if they work, and are comfortable asking for forgiveness rather than permission.

We want people who are curious, proactive and excited about turning ambitious ideas into technology that works in the real world.

Our hiring process

Our process is designed to be straightforward, practical and conversational:

1. Introductory conversation with our Talent Acquisition & Recruitment Partner
A chance to learn more about Robotto, the role and what you are looking for, while giving us an opportunity to understand your background, experience and motivation.

2. Meeting with the Hiring Manager / Principal Engineer
A deeper conversation about your technical background, computer-vision experience, the systems and products you have worked on, and your approach to solving complex perception problems.

3. In-depth Technical Evaluation & Meeting with our COO
A hands-on technical session where you will receive a short assignment to prepare in advance and then work through it together with members of our technical team.

The exercise will be based on a computer-vision problem relevant to the role. We are interested in how you structure the problem, reason about algorithms and architecture, evaluate trade-offs and collaborate with other engineers rather than looking for one specific answer.

Following the technical evaluation, you will meet with our COO for a conversation about the role, Robotto and mutual fit.

4. Offer
If there is a strong mutual fit, we will move forward with an offer.

Why join Robotto?

Robotto is building advanced autonomy technology for drones and unmanned systems, working at the intersection of software, hardware, computer vision and real-world operations.

You will join a highly technical and ambitious team at an exciting point in the company’s journey. As we continue to scale our engineering team and work on challenging new projects, you will have a meaningful opportunity to influence both our technology and how we build it.

This is not a role where everything is already defined. You will have room to challenge approaches, shape technical decisions and take ownership of important parts of our computer-vision stack.

Most importantly, your work will move beyond experimentation. You will see the technology integrated, tested and used on real systems in demanding environments.

Equal Employment Opportunity

Robotto is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and fostering an inclusive workplace. We recruit based on skills, experience and potential.

Due to the nature of our work, certain positions may be subject to security-clearance or other eligibility requirements in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
