Job summary

Norlys Energy Trading A/S is seeking a Senior Compliance Officer to strengthen our compliance framework for energy trading. You will own the trade surveillance setup and partner with trading, risk and IT to embed compliance across the business.

The role is hands-on and based in Aarhus, with visits to Aalborg as needed. You will drive regulatory work including REMIT, MAR and MiFID II/MiFIR, and help shape how new requirements are implemented.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the trade surveillance framework covering physical and financial commodity trading.
• Further develop surveillance systems and protocols related to market conduct and market abuse.
• Drive compliance work linked to REMIT, MAR and MiFID II/MiFIR as applicable to trading activities.
• Identify regulatory gaps, emerging risks and new regulatory expectations, translating them into practical controls.
• Act as a senior compliance sparring partner to traders, analysts, risk, IT and management.
• Contribute to regulatory strategy and prioritisation and implement new requirements.
• Support a strong compliance culture through dialogue, guidance and targeted training.
• Work closely with the existing compliance team, contributing senior-level expertise.

The role

As Senior Compliance Officer at Norlys Energy Trading A/S, you will play a key role in developing and strengthening our compliance framework for energy trading. Compliance is a core business function, closely connected to trading activities, risk management, IT and senior management.

You will have significant ownership of our trade surveillance and market conduct compliance setup and act as a trusted sparring partner to the business. The role is hands‑on, with clear influence on how we design, prioritise and develop compliance going forward.

The role can be based in Aarhus. The rest of the compliance team is based in Aalborg, so the position will include planned visits to Aalborg, agreed with the team.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of the trade surveillance framework covering physical and financial commodity trading
• Further develop surveillance systems and protocols related to market conduct and market abuse
• Drive compliance work linked to key regulations, including:
• REMIT (Regulation on Wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency)
• MAR (Market Abuse Regulation)
• MiFID II / MiFIR, as applicable to trading activities and behaviour
• Identify regulatory gaps, emerging risks and new regulatory expectations, and translate them into practical, business-oriented controls
• Act as a senior compliance sparring partner to traders, analysts, risk, IT and management
• Contribute to regulatory strategy and prioritisation, including how new requirements are implemented in practice
• Support a strong compliance culture through dialogue, guidance and targeted training
• Work closely with the existing compliance team, contributing senior-level expertise and perspective

Qualifications: must-haves

• Strong working knowledge of physical and financial commodity trading, including products, markets and trading platforms
• Solid experience with trade surveillance, market conduct monitoring and compliance in an energy or commodities trading environment
• A proven ability to balance regulatory requirements with commercial realities
• A pragmatic, confident and collaborative approach, with the ability to challenge constructively when needed

Additional qualifications: nice to have

• Experience as a senior specialist or subject matter expert within compliance
• Exposure to regulatory dialogue, audits or supervisory interactions
• Experience contributing to the design or improvement of surveillance tools or methodologies
• International trading or cross‑border regulatory experience
