Job summary

Bavarian Nordic A/S, a leading vaccine company based in Denmark, is seeking an experienced bioprocess engineer to shape processes and systems for Drug Substance manufacturing. You will lead bioprocess design, drive automation strategies, and oversee filtration and equipment decisions to ensure robust, scalable operations.

With 15+ years in pharma/biotech, you will guide technology transfer, validate processes, and uphold GMP standards while mentoring teams and influencing across functions.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in Bioengineering, Biochemical or Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Substantial industrial experience, typically 15+ years, including 10+ years in pharmaceutical/biotech or vaccine manufacturing.
• Proven ability to lead complex engineering projects and provide technical leadership across functions.
• Experience with GMP, change controls, CAPAs, and technology transfer.

Responsibilities

• Lead bioprocess design and optimization: set technical direction for upstream/downstream processes, purification, bulk formulation, and sterile transfers.
• Shape automation and control strategies: translate process needs into PLC/DCS/SCADA requirements, recipes, interlocks, and alarms.
• Provide technical leadership for filtration: define filter selection, sizing, validation, and integrity-testing strategies.
• Guide equipment and system design: review tanks, piping, pumps, valves, and instrumentation including CIP/SIP.
• Deliver projects and technology transfers: lead activities from concept to qualification and handover to operations.
• Strengthen technical standards and compliance: resolve investigations, support change controls and CAPAs, participate in audits.
