Job summary

3Shape in Denmark is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join the Cloud Storage team, building services that move, store and synchronize data across clinics, labs and cloud environments worldwide.

You will design, develop and maintain backend services powering core platform capabilities, with end-to-end delivery and a strong emphasis on reliability, observability and performance across a large production environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional C#/.NET backend development experience.
• Strong software fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms, distributed systems concepts, concurrency and asynchronous programming, performance optimization, system design and architecture, and debugging complex production problems
• Professional experience in SQL, PostgreSQL desirable
• Backend engineering focus on reliability, security and scalability
• Experience with API design, automated testing, code reviews and building maintainable systems
• Curiosity for modern engineering practices and willingness to keep up with relevant technologies and trends

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join the 3Shape Cloud Storage team.

The team builds, maintains and evolves the services responsible for moving, storing and synchronizing business-critical data across dental clinics, laboratories and cloud environments worldwide.

The Cloud Storage service runs locally alongside the dental applications in the clinics and labs, and in the cloud. It supports automatic synchronization of data to where it is needed. The Cloud Storage also stores data in the cloud for the clinics and labs with adequate subscriptions. To give an idea of scale, 3TB of data is ingested daily, with 120 million events processed daily and 1.9 petabytes of data stored globally.

We are intentionally prioritizing strong software developers over cloud specialists. If you have deep C#/.NET expertise and solid engineering fundamentals, we can help you learn the Azure-specific and SRE parts of the role. Experience with cloud platforms, Azure, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code or SRE practices is valuable, but a solid software engineering foundation is what matters most.

You will design, develop and maintain backend services that power one of 3Shape's core platform capabilities. You will combine backend development with SRE, Infrastructure as code and DevOps to work on distributed systems, data synchronization challenges, scalability, reliability and performance across a large production environment. The role involves end-to-end delivery of features—from development and testing to deployment readiness and stakeholder alignment.

You also have experience with SQL, both high-level and detailed monitoring, including building and maintaining dashboards and managing multi-region deployment pipelines. Additionally, familiarity with PKI infrastructure, certificate chains and Merkle trees is considered a strong advantage.

You will collaborate with platform and product teams across 3Shape to align on Azure standards and best practices, especially around Infrastructure as Code, observability and operational readiness.

Skills & Requirements

Required:

• Minimum 5 years of professional C#/.NET backend development experience
• Demonstrated strong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms, distributed systems concepts, concurrency and asynchronous programming, performance optimization, system design and architecture, and debugging complex production problems
• Professional experience in SQL, optionally experience with Postgres is desirable.
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals (design, performance, security and scalability).
• Experience with API design, automated testing, code reviews and building maintainable systems.
• Curiosity for modern engineering practices and willingness to keep up with relevant technologies and trends.
• A strong ownership mindset: automation-first, focus on reliability and continuous improvement of quality and stability.
• Experience with containerized workloads.
• Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Nice to Have:

• Hands-on DevOps/SRE experience, operating production systems and contributing to reliability, observability and deployment practices is beneficial.
• Understanding of core Azure concepts (networking, compute, storage, and databases).
• Experience with monitoring/observability (Azure, OpenTelemetry and/or LGTM stack) and incident handling is a plus.
