Connected Cars is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to design and implement scalable APIs and backend services. You will own code from development to production monitoring, collaborating with engineering teams and external stakeholders on technical integrations.

Senior Backend Developer

The Position

We are currently using Node.js (mainly TypeScript), Kubernetes, MySQL, and BigQuery on the backend, hosted on Google Cloud Platform. Having scaled our backend to a global presence, we rely heavily on Infrastructure as Code using Terraform. We believe in releasing early and often, supported by an automated CI/CD pipeline running multiple daily deployments.

Our engineers work in agile, cross-functional teams of 3–4 people with minimal overhead and bureaucracy. We empower our teams with full decision-making power over how they work, what they focus on, and how they deliver functionality.

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will architect and build robust APIs, backend services, and databases, while taking full ownership of your code from development to production monitoring (via Grafana and Google Cloud Monitoring). You will collaborate closely with other internal engineering teams and periodically communicate with external stakeholders to align on technical integrations and requirements.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a skilled, autonomous engineer with 5+ years of professional backend experience who possesses an inquisitive mind and thrives on taking full ownership of complex problems. You are driven, enthusiastic about software engineering, and proactive in figuring out what needs to be built. Beyond technical execution, you enjoy working cross-functionally and act as a supportive mentor within your team to help colleagues find effective solutions.

Key qualifications and experience:

• 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer building scalable systems.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, and building RESTful/GraphQL APIs.
• Solid experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and managing large datasets (terabytes in BigQuery or similar).
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Proven ability to work cross-functionally and effectively communicate with external stakeholders.
• High degree of autonomy, problem-solving drive, and a natural curiosity to explore new technical solutions.
• Passion for high-quality code, TDD, CI/CD, and mentorship.
