Job summary

Novo Nordisk A/S is seeking a Senior AI Engineer in Enterprise AI to turn strategic use cases into reliable products across Novo. You’ll work in cross-functional teams across Commercial and Manufacturing & Product Supply, deciding when to use conventional software, rules, or GenAI, and taking solutions from prototype to production.

You will be part of AI Reinvent & Engineering, basing in Ballerup, Denmark, contributing to observable, scalable AI delivery in a regulated pharma context.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience building AI or software products.

• Apply Responsible AI, data integrity, validation, traceability and auditability in a regulated pharma environment.

As Senior AI Engineer in Enterprise AI, you will turn strategic AI use cases into reliable products that create value across Novo. Working in cross-functional product teams in areas such as Commercial and Manufacturing & Product Supply, you will decide what each problem really needs, from conventional software to retrieval-grounded GenAI, and take it from prototype to production. Your work helps bring AI into everyday use for people living with serious chronic diseases.

What you’ll bring

You enjoy turning technology into business impact. You don’t need deep expertise in every part of AI engineering, but you do have a solid foundation in software delivery, production AI and cross-functional product work.

• 4+ years of experience building AI or software products. Demonstrated scope and capability matter more than tenure alone.
• Experience taking AI-centric applications from idea to production, and/or contributing to a product or platform team.
• Hands-on experience operating AI in production, including evaluation, monitoring, reliability and cost-performance trade-offs.
• A sound foundation in statistical and machine-learning concepts, with practical experience of modern AI application patterns.
• Strong programming and software engineering skills, including testing, documentation, APIs and CI/CD, preferably with GitHub.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools and coding agents effectively in software delivery.
• Functional knowledge of modern AI interfaces and standards, such as model and tool integrations, MCP and observability approaches.
• An MSc, PhD or similar graduate degree in engineering, computer science, data science, statistics, machine learning or a related field. Candidates with a BSc and industry experience will also be considered.

You combine technical expertise with strong product sense and are comfortable clarifying needs with stakeholders and communicating technical choices to different audiences. You can take ownership of end-to-end AI delivery, make technical and product trade-offs, and ensure alignment throughout the process.

Beyond your technical expertise, we are looking for someone who is collaborative, curious and self-driven, with strong listening skills and a genuine interest in staying current as the AI landscape evolves.

Useful, but not essential

• Familiarity with pharma-specific AI domains, such as clinical NLP, drug discovery AI, regulatory automation or medical knowledge graphs.
• Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Azure ML and Unity Catalog in an enterprise data and AI platform context.
• Knowledge of MCP (Model Context Protocol) server design and enterprise AI platform architecture patterns.

What you’ll do

You will be hired into AI Reinvent & Engineering, while much of your work happens in cross-functional product teams. A central part of the role is deciding whether a problem calls for conventional software or rules, optimisation, a predictive model, retrieval-grounded GenAI or a carefully bounded agentic workflow.

• Take AI- and ML-centric use cases from discovery and rapid prototyping through production and continuous improvement.
• Engineer the product-specific intelligence layer: data and feature transformations, decision logic, model and tool integrations, knowledge grounding, user-facing services, human-oversight controls and fallback behaviour.
• Partner with stakeholders and product managers to frame problems, agree priorities and define meaningful product outcomes.
• Build reliable, scalable, secure and observable products with appropriate testing, evaluation, documentation and CI/CD, using AI-assisted development tools and coding agents responsibly.
• Apply Responsible AI, data integrity, validation, traceability and auditability requirements in a regulated pharmaceutical environment.
• Work with the AI Foundation team to reuse shared capabilities and turn lessons from individual deliveries into reusable components and engineering patterns.
• Own substantial delivery workstreams, shape technical and product choices, and support less experienced engineers.

Who you’ll work with

You will join the AI Engineering Solutions team within AI Reinvent & Engineering, part of Enterprise AI in Enterprise IT, based in Ballerup, Denmark. The team brings together engineers with different strengths across statistics, machine learning, AI and software engineering.

Day to day, you will often work in product teams in Commercial, Manufacturing & Product Supply and other business areas, alongside product managers, domain experts, data scientists and engineers. Staying close to the problems keeps the work relevant, while links to the AI Foundation team keep engineering practices shared. We are cloud-native, working across Azure and AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, foundation-model APIs and modern AI application frameworks, and we value technical rigour, direct feedback and continuous learning.

Salary

Salary: For this role, the Annual Base Salary ranges from 651,000.00 to 956,900.00DKK, corresponding to the level of the position. The placement within the salary range will be assessed during the recruitment process based on the candidate’s skills, competencies, knowledge and relevant experience.
