Job description

We are looking for a Research Manager who can help drive our research projects in systems immunology forward, act as a trusted sparring partner for our PhD students and postdocs, and work closely with the group leader on scientific strategy, publications and funding. You will join the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering) and play a central role in turning research ideas into results.

Scientific and coordinating anchor person for the research group

As Research Manager, you report to the group leader and act as the link between the group leader and the rest of the staff, and a key point of contact for the group's researchers. Your role is to keep our research projects moving forward, scientifically and operationally, while ensuring the day-to-day research environment runs smoothly. You translate the group leader's strategic priorities into concrete progress for the team, and it is a broad position with room to grow alongside the group's ambitions. Working closely with the group leader, your primary areas of responsibility are:

  • Coordinate external research projects and drive their scientific progress and contribute to the group's research strategy and direction.
  • Support publications, grant applications and project budgets.
  • Act as sparring partner for PhD students and postdocs on their projects, priorities and problem-solving, and co-write experimental protocols.
  • Safeguard research compliance incl. GDPR, data security, ethical approvals and data management plans.
  • Coordinate lab operations with the laboratory technician and follow up on budgets, purchases and suppliers.
  • Handle the practical running of the group meetings and 1:1s, system approvals, reporting and onboarding.
Research background and a talent for keeping the overview

We expect you to combine a genuine research background with strong organisational skills, so you can move comfortably between scientific and operational tasks. We imagine that you:

  • Hold a PhD (or equivalent research experience) in immunology, systems biology, biotechnology or a related field.
  • Know the research process from the inside in relation to experimental design, protocols, data management, publications and grant writing.
  • Have experience coordinating research projects and/or mentoring junior researchers.
  • Are familiar with research compliance (GDPR, data security, ethical approvals) and quickly learn IT and administrative tools.

On a personal level, you keep the overview when projects run in parallel, communicate clearly with researchers, technical and administrative colleagues, and bring flexibility and a solution-oriented mindset. You are fluent in written and spoken English.

What we offer in return

We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international atmosphere, with a focus on research, teaching, innovation and scientific advice for the benefit of the surrounding community. You will hold a central role where science, coordination and leadership meet, working closely with the group leader and a talented research team. We place emphasis on a high level of professionalism among our staff, so skills development is an integral part of our organisation, and we offer great flexibility in the position.

Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). In addition, supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTU’s salary structure for academic staff employed in technical-administrative positions at DTU (AC TAP): https://www.inside.dtu.dk/en/human-resources/during-employment/salary/salary-structures

The position is a full-time position. Starting date is 1 December 2026 (or according to mutual agreement). The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
