Job summary

The Andersons, Inc. is seeking a Renewables Maintenance Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment and facility systems in a 24x7 ethanol production environment.

You will lead preventive and corrective maintenance, manage CMMS tasks, and uphold safety and reliability across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of relevant experience, basic electrical theory knowledge, and proficiency in welding and diagnostics.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical theory and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to weld using arc, MIG, and TIG.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting AC/DC electrical systems and calibration instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and overhaul production machinery and facility equipment according to safety protocols.
  • Respond to emergency or unscheduled maintenance needs and perform scheduled service.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and work orders for tasks.
  • Diagnose malfunctions, replace components and perform testing for reliability.
  • Perform routine maintenance on plant equipment and interiors/exteriors.
  • Use CMMS to track tasks and inventory.
  • Follow all safety policies and identify unsafe conditions on site.
  • Support plant activities to improve operational efficiency.

Position Summary

The Renewables Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment and facility systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role leads preventive and corrective maintenance activities, responds to critical equipment issues, and utilizes expertise in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to minimize downtime and improve performance. The technician also manages maintenance programs through CMMS, supports inventory and work order tracking, and promotes a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement. This role is ideal for a hands‑on problem solver who enjoys diagnosing complex equipment issues, working in a fast‑paced industrial environment, and taking ownership of reliability, safety, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain and overhaul production machinery and facility equipment in accordance with operational requirement and safety protocols
  • Respond promptly to emergency or unscheduled maintenance needs on production equipment, mobile machinery, or vehicles, and conduct scheduled service and repairs as assigned
  • Apply a range of skills including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair techniques to support continuous operation of production systems
  • Interpret technical documentation such as equipment manuals, schematics, blueprints, and work orders to accurately perform maintenance and repair tasks
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions, determine root causes, replace or repair defective components, perform functional testing, and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance and reliability
  • Perform routine maintenance on plant equipment, as well as on the plant’s interior and exterior
  • Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track and manage maintenance tasks and inventory
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all safety policies and standards relevant to the role, ensuring safe work practices are consistently followed. Identify and address unsafe conditions to protect the safety of oneself and others on site
  • Provide support for plant activities as needed, contributing to overall operational efficiency

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required, Associate’s Degree preferred
  • 1-3 years’ relevant experience required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic electrical theory and technical skills, including the proficient use of appropriate tools, materials, and diagnostic equipment such as voltage meters, megohmmeters (meggers), and ammeters.
  • Ability to perform basic welding using arc, MIG, and/or TIG welding techniques.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting AC and DC electrical systems, including power distribution networks, control panels, and electric motors, as well as adjusting and calibration instrumentation associated with process equipment
  • Skilled in the use of precision measurement tools, including but not limited to laser alignment systems, calipers, dial indicators, and vibration analysis tools
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply information from Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), electrical schematics, and technical drawings
  • Capable of safely operating industrial equipment including scissor lifts, aerial lifts (e.g., JLG) forklift, telehandlers (e.g., SkyTrak), front-end loader and Skid steer loaders (e.g., Bobcat)
Physical Requirements And Working Environment
  • Work is performed in an ethanol production facility that operates 24x7 which will require on-call scheduling and flexibility to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • This position is subject to heavy lifting, climbing, working in strained positions and in confined areas, occasionally for a prolonged period
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures with frequent exposure to noise, dirt and a dusty environment
  • Occupational hazards are those associated with working at elevated heights and in proximity to large, industrial machinery
