Job description

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in operator algebras with a focus on the structure and classification of C*-dynamical systems. The starting date is January 1, 2027 or a nearby date. The duration of the position is 2 years. The hired candidate will be mentored by Jamie Gabe.

About the position

In connection with the Carlsberg Foundation – Semper Ardens: Accelerate grant "Classifying finite and infinite C*-dynamics" held by Jamie Gabe, we are opening a 2-year postdoc position for a young researcher with a research profile in operator algebras. The standard Danish salary is very competitive, and the position also includes a travel budget of 2000 € per year. The teaching load will not exceed 1 semester per year, corresponding to 10 ECTS, and the teaching may be conducted in English. The postdoc is expected to organize the weekly Operator Algebras seminar.

About the Workgroup

The postdoc will belong to the Operator Algebra group within the Topology, Analysis, Algebra, and Geometry (TAAG) research section. The Operator Algebra group boasts several permanent faculty members working in operator algebras and noncommutative geometry. The TAAG section conducts research within a broad spectrum of pure mathematics, and the section has close ties with SDU’s Center for Quantum Mathematics.

Formal requirement

The candidate is required to be fluent in English and to hold a PhD degree in mathematics at the starting date of the position.

  • A CV including information on previous employment.
  • PhD diploma (if the applicant has not yet defended their dissertation, they should attach a letter from their supervisor confirming that the defense is going to take place before the postdoc position begins). In case the diploma does not state explicitly who supervised the applicant’s dissertation, please make sure to include this information elsewhere.
  • A full list of publications including both preprints and published material. Please do not attach your publications to the application. If an article is not yet published, include instead a link to the arXiv or to your personal webpage in your list of publications.
  • A short research statement (max 4 pages) describing previous and future research interests.
  • 1-2 letters of recommendations.
Further details

Applications will be assessed by an expert assessor/committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.

We encourage all interested people to apply, regardless of age, gender, religious affiliation, or ethnic background. Women and applicants from other underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
