Job summary

DTU Wind and Energy Systems at DTU invites a PhD candidate to explore nonlinear interactions in turbulent wind turbine wakes. You will combine CFD, data-driven modelling and experiments to advance wake predictions under realistic atmospheric conditions. The project involves collaboration with Imperial College London and a research stay abroad.

The PhD is funded with a scholarship under DTU's regulations, with a three-year contract and international collaboration, starting as soon as possible.

Qualifications

  • Background in engineering or physics.
  • Understanding of fluid mechanics, turbulence and wake aerodynamics.
  • Understanding of dynamical systems.
  • Experience with data-driven methods (POD and/or autoencoders) and spectral analysis.
  • Ability to work with large data sets.
  • Proficient in scientific programming (Python).
  • Strong English communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CFD simulations of wind turbine wake aerodynamics across various conditions.
  • Investigate data-driven methods for accuracy and efficiency to develop wake models.
  • Conduct uncertainty quantification and validation against high-fidelity results.
  • Provide physical interpretation of models.
  • Publish results and present at conferences.
