Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant PhD scholarship within the field of Responsible Entrepreneurship at the Department of Business Humanities and Law. Expected starting date is 1 February 2027.
About Department of Business Humanities and Law (BHL) at CBS
Department of Business Humanities and Law explores how people, organisations, institutions, and societies shape business. Its core research themes include entrepreneurship, business ethics, leadership, governance, culture, learning, business history, and business law from commercial and societal perspectives. The department comprises three academic units and nine research groups.
BHL Faculty have research backgrounds in various areas of political science, sociology, philosophy, history, anthropology, theology, aesthetics, design and innovation, leisure management, cultural economics, leadership and strategy, pedagogic study, law, and other fields. What unites faculty is an overriding concern for the organization of the human within its multiple environments: work, technology, nature, economy, civil association, the state, and corporation. BHL also participates in numerous interdisciplinary cross-CBS activities. In line with this concern, the PhD should demonstrate a capacity to bridge several of these environments and place the human at the heart of the project. Further information about the department and its research environments is available here:www.cbs.dk/bhl
Teaching responsibilities of the Department include undergraduate and graduate teaching in entrepreneurship, innovation and responsible business.
PhD project
We invite applications for a PhD position in responsible entrepreneurship, broadly understood as research that examines how entrepreneurial activities, practices, and ecosystems can contribute to addressing societal and environmental challenges while remaining attentive to their potential unintended consequences. The project is deliberately open in scope, allowing candidates to develop an original research agenda at the intersection of entrepreneurship, organization, technology, and responsible innovation. We particularly welcome theoretically ambitious and empirically grounded proposals that explore how changing societal expectations, new technologies, and new forms of entrepreneurial support are reshaping who can participate in entrepreneurship, how entrepreneurial capabilities are developed, and how value and opportunities are created and distributed.
The PhD project will be embedded in a collaborative research environment and should aim to generate insights relevant both to entrepreneurship scholarship and to entrepreneurs, universities, policymakers, investors, and organizations supporting entrepreneurship.
Examples of research areas a scholarship might cover:
Universities and entrepreneurship — how universities, incubators, accelerators, and other support organizations can foster more responsible and inclusive forms of entrepreneurship.
