DTU Chemical Engineering invites applications for a PhD student position focused on synthetic community design and bioprocess development. The selected candidate will develop novel bioprocesses driven by synthetic communities and analyze microbial interactions driving their synergistic behavior beyond cross-feeding.

The position involves cross-disciplinary work with automation, bioreactors, flow cytometry, LC-MS/MS and computational methods, and includes supervision of student projects in

Qualifications

  • MSc degree in Biotechnology, Life sciences, or related field.
  • Experience in bioinformatics, flow cytometry and/or LC-MS/MS analysis.
  • Strong writing and communication skills; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Join an innovative, international, multidisciplinary team.
  • Research microbial physiology and ecology within bioprocess development.
  • Publish results and engage in societal outreach.
  • Design and perform bioreactor experiments to study microbial interactions in synthetic communities.
  • Develop and improve wet lab and analytical protocols (flow cytometry, LC-MS/MS).
  • Apply computational tools including bioinformatics and metabolic modeling.
  • Probe design using various FISH techniques.
  • Supervise BSc and MSc student projects.
