Job summary

The Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a PhD student to develop new theoretical frameworks describing light–matter interactions in van der Waals heterostructures, probed by polaritons from inelastic tunneling. The project combines analytical, semi-analytical, and numerical techniques in a dynamic, international research environment.

The position is a 3-year salaried PhD fellowship supervised by Assistant Professor P. André D.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (equivalent to Danish master’s) at the time of enrollment and employment.
  • Strong background in condensed-matter physics or quantum nanophotonics.
  • Experience with scientific programming is expected, while familiarity with numerical techniques is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new theoretical frameworks for describing light–matter interactions in van der Waals heterostructures probed by polaritons generated through inelastic tunneling.
  • Develop computational methods to investigate polariton-mediated inelastic electron tunneling in tunnel junctions.
  • Collaborate within POLIMA’s international network to advance theoretical nano-optoelectronics research.
