Job summary

DTU Construct at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a PhD candidate to study multi-physics modelling of bearingless pumps. You will work within an international DTU-UQ-Danfoss collaboration to develop predictive models that support industrial pump design.

The research focuses on coupled thermofluid, electromagnetic, and rotordynamic phenomena, with opportunities for prototype testing at Danfoss under realistic conditions.

Qualifications

  • You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS) or an equivalent degree.
  • The scholarship is subject to DTU enrolment in a general degree programme.
  • Experience in multiphysics modelling is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Develop coupled thermofluid-electromagnetic-rotordynamic models of bearingless pumps.
  • Quantify flow-induced radial and axial forces under design and off-design conditions.
  • Identify and model dominant loss mechanisms and their thermal and mechanical interactions.
  • Assess the influence of thermal effects on force generation and material properties.
  • Validate numerical models against experiments and literature data.
  • Disseminate findings through publications and conference presentations.
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of BSc/MSc projects.
