Resumo da oferta

DTU Construct invites applications for a 3-year PhD fellowship in coastal engineering. The project develops analytical and numerical models for waves interacting with coastal vegetation to assess protection against waves and flooding.

Collaboration spans DTU, DHI, and international partners, with a focus on adapting coastal hydrodynamics models for climate resilience. The PhD is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and aims to move beyond empirical vegetation models by explicitly

Qualificações

  • Experience with numerical modelling and programming is desirable.
  • Strong mathematical skills and interest in combining theory with numerical modelling.

Responsabilidades

  • Develop analytical and numerical models for waves interacting with coastal vegetation.
  • Emphasize wave-averaged flow and vegetation canopy effects on the velocity field.
  • Extend models to irregular wave fields and derive wave-averaged shear-stress distributions.
  • Investigate undertow and circulation above vegetated beds in the surf zone.
  • Develop a cross-shore momentum balance for wave-induced changes in mean water level.
  • Perform numerical simulations using computational fluid dynamics.
  • Apply turbulence models for surface-wave flows with vegetation.
  • Validate models against laboratory data and prepare parameterisations for larger-scale models.
