Serving as a Key Function Holder, the MLRO will be responsible for overseeing local transaction surveillance, managing FIU escalations, and maintaining complete regulatory integrity and local substance under the Danish AML Act.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exercise statutory responsibility for evaluating internal disclosures and submitting Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs/STRs) directly to the Danish Financial Intelligence Unit (Hvidvasksekretariatet).
  • Serve as the primary local contact for Finanstilsynet on financial crime, sanctions, and AML supervisory queries, inspections, and statutory filings.
  • Prepare and present formal periodic risk indicators, SAR filing metrics, and compliance assessments to the Executive Board (Direktionen) and Supervisory Board (Bestyrelsen).
  • Maintain, update, and oversee the statutory Business-Wide Risk Assessment (BWRA) for the Danish entity, aligning risk thresholds with operational activities and payment workflows.
  • Direct the operational governance and monitoring of automated transaction surveillance systems and real-time sanctions/PEP screening controls.
  • Oversee the implementation of Customer Due Diligence (CDD), KYB, and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) frameworks for client accounts and complex corporate structures.
  • Ensure adherence to statutory recordkeeping, data integrity, and audit trail requirements across financial crime and onboarding workflows.
  • Maintain, review, and present the firm’s AML/CFT, Sanctions, and Anti-Bribery policies for annual review and approval by the Board of Directors.
  • Monitor evolving regulatory requirements under the Danish AML Act (Hvidvaskloven), EBA guidelines, and relevant international standards to ensure local policy alignment.
  • Provide independent and effective monitoring and oversight of controls implemented across the company.
  • Provide advice and support to internal stakeholders, seeking advice where appropriate.
  • Oversee the delivery of mandatory, role-specific AML/CFT training programs for personnel across the Danish operating entity.
  • Coach, mentor, and guide the team daily, providing active, constructive feedback on investigation quality, overseeing closed alerts on a weekly basis to document errors, and actively supporting team members in their professional growth.
  • Maintain and analyze team records, case closure data logs, and project documentation to identify process gaps and offer operational solutions for improvement.
  • Stay updated on financial markets, digital banking trends, neo-bank fraud methodologies, and regulatory developments to maintain a highly sophisticated compliance defense.
  • Execute ad-hoc operational projects and strategic tasks as directed by the executive leadership.
Person Specification
  • Minimum 5+ years of specialized FinCrime compliance experience as an MLRO, Deputy MLRO, or Senior AML Specialist within a regulated EMI, Payment Institution, or Bank in Northern Europe/EEA.
  • Proven track record of Fit & Proper clearance from Finanstilsynet or an equivalent EEA financial regulator.
  • Professional fluency in both Danish and English (written and spoken).
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of the Danish AML Act (Hvidvaskloven), GoAML portal workflows, MitID/CVR registry integrations, and European payment frameworks (PSD2/PSD3, EMD2).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a similar degree is preferred.
