Job summary

Alfa Laval seeks a Mechanical Engineer specializing in product design maintenance to own engineering changes across the existing portfolio. Qualifications

  • CAD software experience at viewer level; no 2D/3D creation required

Responsibilities

  • Lead changes to structural steel, mechanical designs, and components (valves, fans, pumps).
  • Own changes from initiation to closeout, collaborating with relevant functions.
  • Drive the technical part of engineering changes to maintain and improve the product portfolio.
  • Write specifications and evaluate supplier proposals for components.
  • Assess impact on risk assessments (HAZOP, FMEA, DFMEA).
  • Create Technical Solution Descriptions documenting impacts across diagrams and docs.
  • Implement changes in mechanical design, P&IDs, components and some process changes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to implement changes.

About the job

As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in product design maintenance, you will enter a versatile role where you will have technical ownership of engineering changes that keep our existing product portfolio performing at its best.

Working at the center of our engineering organization, you will drive mechanical and system design changes from initial assessment through implementation and documentation. You thrive working across functions, taking ownership of technical decisions, and are energized by the challenge of improving products and systems in a collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead changes to structural steel, mechanical designs, and components such as valves, fans, and pumps.
  • Assess and own how changes impact surrounding systems and take ownership of each change from initiation through to closeout, collaborating with relevant functions throughout the process.
  • Drive the technical part of engineering changes, particularly in mechanical and system design, to maintain and improve the existing product portfolio.
  • Select the right components — including writing specifications and conducting technical evaluation of supplier proposals.
  • Assess if and how changes impact risk assessments (HAZOP, FMEA, DFMEA),
  • Create Technical Solution Descriptions (impact analysis) documenting the impact of changes across diagrams, models, and technical documentation.
  • Implement changes involving mechanical design, P&IDs, components and to some extent process changes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to evaluate and implement changes effectively.
  • Monitor and ensure progress on assigned engineering changes

About you

Required Qualifications
  • Educational background in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in a similar role involving mechanical steel design (i.e. structures and pressure vessel).
  • Basic experience with CAD software such as Inventor or similar, at minimum viewer level. The role does not involve creating 2D or 3D designs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with burners, boilers, heat exchangers, scrubbers, or similar marine or industrial systems is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with PLM software, such as Autodesk Vault and/or Siemens Teamcenter.
