Job summary

Responsibly in Copenhagen is offering a six-month, full-time internship paid at €1,900 per month, aimed at building production code in TypeScript for our Next.js app and data pipelines. You will own real features end-to-end, work with AI tools, and learn inside a small team led by our CTO.

You will be in the Copenhagen office, collaborating directly with engineers, and there is a clear path to a full-time offer if things go well. English is our working language.

More than 40% of global emissions, and really any ESG issue, are directly or indirectly impacted by procurement. Companies wield enormous purchasing power when they select and manage suppliers, so if we can put sustainability on every supplier scorecard out there, we really can change the world. But it's hard: a company can have anywhere from 100 to 100,000 suppliers, analyzing each one's sustainability efforts is near-impossible, and most ESG ratings suck. Responsibly's AI-powered due diligence engine automates the due diligence on every supplier across every ESG data point, from risk and violations to positive actions, and turns it into insights that help companies build more sustainable supply chains.

The engineering problem

Most of what we do comes down to one hard thing: turning the world's messy, unstructured supplier data into something you can score. A supplier's ESG reality is scattered across PDF sustainability reports, half-broken corporate websites, regulatory filings, news, and a dozen ERP exports that all name the same company differently. We scrape it, extract it, resolve the entities, normalise it, and put a number on it, at a scale where a single customer can have 100,000 suppliers. That means real problems, not ticket-shaped ones. Extraction pipelines where the LLM is confidently wrong 5% of the time and you have to decide what to do about it. Entity resolution where "Nordic Steel A/S" and "NORDIC STEEL" and "Nordisk Stål" may or may not be the same company. Schema design for data that arrives in a different shape every time. If that sounds fun rather than exhausting, we should talk.

What This Internship Actually Is

Six months, full-time, paid, in our Copenhagen office, writing code that goes to production. We are not looking for someone to shadow an engineer, sit in on meetings and leave with a report. You will have your own work, you will ship it, and it will be used by customers. Our engineering team is small enough that there is no other way for it to work. We run this internship for one reason: it is the best way we know to find people who are going to be excellent engineers before their CV says so. One of the best engineers we've had joined us as a junior and was senior within two and a half years. If the six months go well for both of us, a full-time offer is the intended outcome, not a nice surprise. We will be honest with you early about which way it is going.

What You'll Be Doing

• Writing production code in TypeScript, on our Next.js app and the pipelines behind it
• Owning a real feature or a real piece of the data pipeline end to end, from a rough problem statement to something running in production
• Building with AI as a matter of course, both agentic coding tools in how you work and LLMs inside what you ship
• Getting your hands into the messy part: scraping awkward sources, wrangling extraction quality, making sense of millions of imperfect records
• Fixing things that break, including things you wrote

How We Work

• The engineering team is small and you'll report directly to Christian, our CTO. There is no layer between you and the decisions
• Specs are limited. You'll get a problem and a rough sense of what the output should look like, and you're expected to own it from there. You'll get more support than a senior hire would, and you should ask for it early and often, but nobody is going to hand you a ticket with the approach already decided
• You choose how to solve it, and you ship it. Idea to production is days, not quarters. We run weekly sprints, usually with a release as the goal
• You will sometimes be wrong, ship it, and fix it. That's okay
• Our engineers run agentic coding tools daily, and we'd rather talk about where they fall down than whether to use them
• We're in the office at Islands Brygge 3-5 days a week, on the water. For an internship this matters more than it does for a senior: most of what you learn here you'll learn by sitting next to someone

Requirements

Read this part carefully, because it is probably not what you expect from a job ad. We are not screening on your degree, your grades, your university or whether you have one. We are not screening on years of experience either, because you don't have many yet and that is the entire point of an internship. The best predictor we have found is what someone has built when nobody was paying them to.

What we do want

• You build things, and you can show us. Something you made because you wanted it to exist, not because it was assigned. A tool, a bot, a game, a scraper, a website, a mod, an app nobody uses but you. It does not need to be finished, polished, popular or clever. Rough and real beats tidy and hypothetical every time. Engineering is the one field where you can prove you can do the work before anyone employs you, so this is what we look at first
• Raw ability, and a steep learning curve. You pick things up fast, you go deep rather than staying on the surface, and you can explain how something you built actually works, including the part you got wrong
• Curiosity that predates us. You take things apart. You read about how things work for no immediate reason. You have opinions about tools
• AI is already in how you work. Not something you are planning to look into. You use it daily, and you can tell us what it is bad at
• You want to be coached. You take direct feedback well, you would rather be corrected than comfortable, and you don't need to be right. This is the one we weight most heavily, because six months is short and we intend to teach you a lot in it
• English. It is our working language and everything happens in it

Helpful, and genuinely not required

• TypeScript specifically, or React and Next.js
• SQL and relational databases, or Python
• Having shipped something with an LLM in it
• Any interest in ESG, procurement or supply chains

Practicalities

• Six months, full-time, 40 hours a week. A shorter stay can work if your university requires a specific length, just tell us in your application
• Paid: €1,900 per month
• Start date is rolling. We hire when we find the right person, so tell us the earliest date you could start
• Copenhagen, Islands Brygge. You need to be here or firmly planning to move, and you need the right to work in Denmark, either an EU passport or a valid permit. We cannot sponsor a permit for an internship
• If your university requires a learning agreement, a named supervisor or a written evaluation, we will do that. Just flag it early
