Plans in Copenhagen is seeking a Design Engineer to deepen our end-to-end frontend, spanning iOS and web, with a focus on depth of craft and cohesive user experience.
You’ll prototype quickly in React/TypeScript, ship production frontend, collaborate with iOS engineers, and help raise the bar across surfaces while embracing AI-assisted tooling to improve first passes.
This role values hands-on builders who ship, care about climate impact, and mentor teammates as Plans grows.
Our carbon emissions are still increasing, and the evidence for dramatic climate change is all around. We want to do our part in solving it.
In Europe, 12% of our carbon emissions come from heating our homes - just as much as using our cars. Getting those emissions to zero will be a gargantuan task: renovating 90 million buildings across many countries is a hard problem.
Plans’ mission is to decarbonise buildings faster, by making renovations easy and accessible.
We’ve secured a robust funding of 11M€ from high-caliber investors, including the likes of Lowercarbon, Norrsken VC, Partech, Foundamental, and MCJ Collective.
Over the last couple of years we’ve built the foundation: building data now flows end-to-end, from our iOS capture app, through the platform, out to the deliverables our customers depend on. The pipes work. What’s next is quality, and reach.
We’re a capable, product-minded team that ships. Design and UX is the one area where we’re good but not yet great — and that’s exactly the gap we want to close. We’re hiring a Design Engineer to strengthen the team here: to bring depth of craft where we’re currently thin, and to raise the whole team’s bar rather than to shoulder design alone.
Concretely, that means two things. First, help take the surfaces we already have from good-enough to genuinely great, where the UX and UI decide whether someone trusts the output and actually understands it. Second, help us explore new directions — designing net-new interfaces and new deliverables for audiences we don’t serve yet.
This is design across every platform, not just the web. Our product spans an iOS capture app, a web platform, and the documents and reports we generate for people downstream — and it should feel like one coherent product across all of them. Your craft raises the bar everywhere it lives.
Think of it as the deep stroke of a T. You’re a specialist in design engineering, where design taste meets shipped code, joining a team that’s broad and strong but wants more depth here. You’ll prototype to explore an idea, then ship the real thing: writing production frontend on the web yourself, and shaping the native iOS experience hand-in-hand with our iOS engineers. You care about how a product feels to use, and you’d rather make it happen than write a spec for someone else to make happen. You’re not an artist looking for a canvas; you’re a maker who wants the thing shipped and good.
The vast majority of our code is AI-assisted (Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, and whatever comes next). This is central to how the role strengthens everyone: the aim isn’t only your own output, it’s raising everyone’s first pass, by putting your taste into shared components, design-system primitives, reviews, and the rules our tooling follows, so good design becomes the default rather than something that rests on one person.
This role is based at Plans’ HQ in Copenhagen. We work from the office together — it’s how we build.
We’ve written this as a mid-to-senior role and are open on level. We care more about depth of craft and the instinct to lift the people around you than about years on paper — and a more senior hire would naturally have more influence over the design system and consistency across surfaces as we grow.

Even if you feel like you don’t meet all the “must-have” requirements for this role, we encourage you to apply anyway. We know that the confidence gap and imposter syndrome can get in the way of companies meeting incredible candidates, and we don’t want them to get in the way of meeting you.
