CERN - The European Research Center of Particle Physics seeks an Electrical Engineering professional to contribute to control system development for the 13 kA Energy Extraction System. You will perform testing, installation and commissioning tasks onsite, using oscilloscopes, DAQ, and PCB testing workflows.

The role emphasizes instrumentation setup, test execution, data analysis and meticulous documentation.

Qualifications

Job description

  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Compensation: CHF 5266 - CHF 5793 - monthly

From testing advanced electrical and electronic systems, this role offers a unique opportunity to develop practical engineering skills in a world-leading research environment.

As a member of the team developing CERN's 13 kA Energy Extraction System controls, you will contribute to system testing, troubleshooting, data acquisition, hardware installation and commissioning systems.

Your responsibilities:
  • Set up instrumentation devices (oscilloscopes, measurement probes, function generators, etc.) and conduct commissioning and performance qualification tests.
  • Debug and troubleshoot electronic and electrical circuits.
  • PCB tests and validation.
  • Set up DAQ devices.
  • Data collection and analysis.
  • Test report preparation.
  • Assemble, test and install electronic chassis.
  • Test hardware performance validation.
Your profile:
  • Experience in the installation, test, troubleshooting of electrical and/or electronic circuits and devices.
  • Experience with instrumentation (setting up measurement devices such as oscilloscopes, measurement probes, function generators, etc).
  • Experience of PCB production and tests.
  • Basic experience with set up DAQ systems and electrical/electronic signals data analysis.
  • Experience with test stations validating the performance of control electronic and electrical production would be an advantage.
Skills:
  • Knowledge of electrical and/or electronic circuits, debugging and measurement techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of Electromechanical devices and maintenance.
  • Ability to write test reports and documentation.
  • Knowledge of using mechanical tooling during the installation of the equipment would be an asset.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.
Eligibility criteria:
  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical or Electronics Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
Additional Information

Job closing date: 20.09.2026 at 23:59 CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Fully Onsite

Target start date: 01-January-2027
