Project Description

Engineering analysis in a fast‑paced environment can be challenging, as evolving requirements and design changes often make updates reactive rather than proactive. This project addresses how to transform these challenges into opportunities by exploring and prototyping AI‑supported workflows. The goal is to integrate and synchronize various engineering tools and data sources such as CAD (SolidWorks), Polarion for requirement management, manufacturing capability data, tolerance chains, and test results. By leveraging AI to connect and analyze these fragmented data sets, the project aims to surface critical insights that support more informed design decisions and reduce project complexity. Ultimately, you will contribute to developing an initial concept for an integrated tool that enhances transparency and overview in complex projects, paving the way for data‑driven engineering decisions aligned with robust design, manufacturability, and validation practices.

Relevant Study Backgrounds

We are looking for students with a foundation in Mechanical Engineering, complemented by hands‑on experience in SolidWorks for effective CAD modeling and integration. Candidates should demonstrate robust statistical analysis skills – particularly in evaluating tolerance chains and test data using tools like SAS JMP. Additionally, familiarity with AI tools, such as Copilot, will support the integration of innovative AI approaches into established engineering processes.

Preferred Competencies Or Interests
  • Strong foundation in mechanical engineering and robust design principles
  • Interest in workflow optimization and experience with AI agent setup
  • Hands‑on experience retrieving data from SolidWorks (e.g., via APIs)
Sponsor(s)

Your project will be guided by Niels Peter Emme, Senior Principal of Robust Design, Engineering Analysis at Coloplast. With his expertise, you will have direct mentorship and support as you navigate this innovative approach to integrating AI into engineering workflows.
