Job description

A hands-on, mid-level role turning benchtop microbial fermentation into repeatable pilot production, supporting transfer to manufacturing partners and delivering material for formulation, soil and field testing.

About Yngvi Bio

At Yngvi Bio, we are building a biological crop-protection platform based on targeted, non-living protein complexes. Our technology combines AI-guided protein design, insect genetics and microbial production. We are moving active prototypes from biological testing into scalable fermentation, formulation, soil and field validation.

The role

We are looking for a hands-on, mid-level Bioprocessing Specialist to turn benchtop microbial fermentation into repeatable pilot production, support transfer to manufacturing partners and deliver consistent material for formulation, soil and field testing. This individual-contributor role suits someone who has directly participated in one or two scale-up or technology-transfer cycles and still enjoys working at the bench and bioreactor.

Key responsibilities
  • Fermentation development. Plan and execute microbial batch and fed-batch fermentations, including media, feed, induction, pH, dissolved oxygen, aeration, temperature and harvest strategies.
  • Protein expression and optimization. Improve recombinant protein expression, solubility, yield, product quality and robustness by linking process conditions to biological performance.
  • Scale-up and technology transfer. Translate laboratory processes toward 50-1,000 L and beyond; define scale criteria, run plans, acceptance criteria and transfer packages, and support partner execution.
  • Production execution. Run repeatable, traceable batches that supply characterized material for formulation, soil, greenhouse and field testing.
  • Harvest and fit-for-purpose recovery. Personally perform and improve harvest, cell disruption or extraction, clarification, concentration and the minimal purification needed for testing.
  • Troubleshooting, data and quality control. Use structured experiments, data analysis, in-process controls and practical quality checks to investigate deviations and connect upstream choices to recovery and lot quality.
  • Documentation and collaboration. Maintain SOPs, batch records, risk assessments and transfer documentation, and work closely with scientists, formulation and agronomy colleagues, quality functions and external manufacturing partners.

You will be responsible for practical process development and execution while helping Yngvi Bio build the documentation and production discipline needed for reliable internal batches and partner transfer.

Qualifications
  • Relevant experience. Typically 3-6 years in microbial fermentation, upstream bioprocess development or production-facing biotechnology.
  • Hands-on fermentation. Strong practical experience setting up, running, sampling and troubleshooting microbial bioreactors.
  • Recombinant protein expression. Practical experience with microbial expression is important; bacterial systems such as E. coli are preferred. You can connect process conditions to expression, solubility, quality and recovery.
  • Scale-up evidence. Direct involvement in one or two scale-up or technology-transfer cycles beyond small laboratory reactors, with the ability to explain what changed between scales.
  • Production and downstream practice. Experience producing test or pilot material and personally performing harvest, extraction, clarification and basic purification or recovery.
  • Education and working style. BSc, MSc, PhD or equivalent practical expertise in engineering, biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry or a related field, combined with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach suited to an early-stage company.
  • Valuable extras. Experience expressing virus-like particles, capsid-like structures, multimeric or self-assembling proteins, or other complex recombinant proteins is a bonus. Experience with design of experiments, automation, advanced downstream processing, CDMOs or agricultural biotechnology is also valuable.
What we offer
  • A role with direct influence on how Yngvi Bio turns designed proteins into repeatable, scalable production.
  • Work spanning fermentation, production, scale-up and the delivery of material for formulation, soil and field testing.
  • A small international team at BioInnovation Institute where you can build practical systems, solve difficult technical challenges and grow with the role.
