Job summary

Flatpay is seeking a Backend Engineer to help shape the technical direction of our fast-growing Point of Sale platform. You’ll work with Product, Design and other engineers to build software that scales across merchants, markets and capabilities.

You’ll own features from design through deployment, contribute to architecture, and improve reliability and security. Experience with distributed systems and payments is a plus, and you’ll thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced fintech environment.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems.
• Comfortable with testing and version control.
• Curious, pragmatic, and eager to learn new technologies.
• Strong communication skills and a willingness to take ownership of your work.
• A collaborative mindset and a willingness to challenge ideas constructively.
• Experience within payments, fintech, e-commerce, SaaS, or high‑scale transaction systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Designing, building and evolving features across our Point of Sale platform.
• Lead feature and platform initiatives involving multiple engineers, driving delivery from discovery through production.
• Build APIs, services, and integrations that enable stock, order lifecycle, sales reporting & compliance reporting towards governmental standards of our markets.
• Take ownership of features from design and implementation through deployment and maintenance.
• Drive architectural decisions and long‑term technical improvements.
• Improve reliability, observability, performance, and security across the platform.
• Continuously improving our engineering practices, tooling and development experience.
• Contribute to testing, operational excellence and contribute to a collaborative team culture.
