The University of Southern Denmark invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Energy Harvesting and EMI Mitigation for drones and robots operating in high‑voltage environments. The position emphasizes building an internationally recognized research profile and securing external funding.
The role includes teaching, course development, supervision of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students, and active participation in collaborative research with industry and academia.
The section of Digital and High-Frequency Electronics at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Energy Harvesting and EMI Mitigation for Drones and Robots in High-Voltage Environments. The position is open from January 1, 2027, and the starting date will be agreed with the successful candidate.
The Assistant Professor will conduct research within energy harvesting for drones, robotic systems, and IoT applications, with a particular focus on enhancing power density and enabling long-term autonomous operation. The research will further address electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) for electronic and robotic systems operating in extreme high-voltage environments, contributing to improved system reliability, safety, and performance in infrastructure inspection and maintenance applications.
The successful candidate is expected to develop and sustain a research agenda aligned with or complementing the section’s activities, establish an internationally recognized research profile, publish in high-impact journals and leading international conference proceedings, and actively contribute to securing external research funding from national and international sources. The role includes collaboration with academic colleagues and industrial partners and participation in national and international research activities.
The position includes planning, teaching, and developing Bachelor’s and Master’s‑level courses in relevant areas of electronics and electrical engineering. The successful candidate will supervise Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students, provide academic guidance, and contribute to a supportive and collaborative research and learning environment. The role also includes academic service at section and department levels and participation in relevant professional activities.
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
Applicants must document the following qualifications and experience:
A strong research track record in electromagnetic energy harvesting, power conversion, or power management systems.
Research experience in electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) for operation in extreme high-voltage environments up to 500 kV.
Experience in the design, development, and testing of drone systems.
Experience in university teaching, course development, and supervision of engineering students, together with pedagogical and subject‑specific skills appropriate to the position.
A proven ability to attract external research funding as principal investigator or key contributor.
A strong publication record in leading international journals and conferences, including publications resulting from international collaborations.
Demonstrated experience in international research projects and collaborative activities with academic and industrial partners.
Experience serving as reviewer for leading international journals and conferences in relevant research fields.
International research experience gained in an environment other than the institution where the applicant completed their PhD will be considered an advantage.
The section of Digital and High‑Frequency Electronics at the University of Southern Denmark conducts research in digital and high‑frequency electronics, embedded systems, control, and communications, using advanced reconfigurable computing and sensing technologies. The section develops next‑generation electronics and computing solutions to address technological challenges in autonomous robots, drones, IoT, smart grids, and healthcare.
The section contributes to the electrical engineering programmes in Odense, including Bachelor’s and Master of Science degrees in Electronics Engineering. Over the next few years, the section is expected to expand to at least 30 staff members, including academic staff, PhD students, and engineers, supporting research, industrial collaboration, and education. This growth will strengthen the section’s contribution to electrical engineering and related fields.
SDU’s Odense campus comprises six faculties, providing opportunities for interdisciplinary research and a vibrant student life. Odense offers a culturally rich environment, a growing robotics community, attractive residential areas, and green spaces along the river through the city centre.
