Job summary

Pleo is seeking a Senior Analytics Engineer to own the semantic layer and analytics standards across the company. You’ll define metric definitions, guide data modelling, and evangelise AI-augmented development within a pioneering data platform.

You’ll work with LookML, dbt, and BigQuery while shaping governance practices across teams. The role is senior, with broad impact on internal analytics and external data products.

Qualifications

• Deep demonstrated expertise in dbt and modelling practices across a function. Ability to defend trade-offs and teach others.
• Deep BigQuery and SQL expertise including performance and cost considerations.
• Experience owning a semantic layer (LookML, dbt MetricFlow, or equivalent) and ensuring metric consistency.
• AI-native development practice in a data engineering context with real value and risk awareness.
• Track record setting standards across teams you don’t manage via influence rather than authority.
• Understanding of what LLMs and agentic tools need from a data layer for reliable AI output.

Responsibilities

• Own the semantic layer: define metric definitions, structure, storage, and enforcement to ensure a single source of truth.
• Set data modelling standards for the function across domains and complexity levels.
• Build and lead Analytics Engineering community of practice with code reviews and documentation.
• Lead AI-native development practices and evaluate their governance impacts.
• Drive AI-augmented migration work across the Analytics Warehouse and OD Platform.
• Design data models and metrics for reliable AI consumption with minimal human intervention.
• Collaborate with backend and product engineers to enforce data contracts and upstream schema ownership.
• Contribute to Data & AI Products for external analytics leveraging scalable data patterns.
