Job summary

Milestone Systems is seeking an AI Harness Engineer (Senior/Principal) to own the AI engineering platform—model gateway, agent loops, context handling, tool integrations, caching, and guardrails. You will define standards, build observability, and enable on-prem and air-gapped deployments while guiding cost and security considerations across the engineering organization.

With experience deploying LLM-based systems to production, you will mentor teams, align with GDPR and EU AI Act requirements

Qualifications

• Staff-level experience building and operating distributed production systems.
• Hands-on familiarity with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex).
• Experience deploying LLM-based systems to production.
• Strong fundamentals to diagnose and fix failures when an agent runs.
• Budget-minded approach to token and compute spend.
• Familiarity with DX Core 4 or DORA metrics.
• Ability to communicate effectively with senior engineers and align teams.
• Curiosity to keep up with AI field shifts.

Responsibilities

• Own the AI engineering platform: model gateway, agent loops, context handling, tool integrations, caching, guardrails, identity, secrets, and audit trails.
• Define technical standards and reference architectures for AI-assisted development.
• Build the observability layer to trace agent runs end-to-end.
• Turn internal experiments into scalable offerings for other teams.
• Establish evaluations and cost-tracking to assess tool value.
• Make build-versus-buy recommendations for infrastructure.
• Support on-prem and air-gapped deployment as a core design constraint.
• Collaborate with product teams for future GDPR/EU AI Act alignment.
• Mentor engineers and document processes to sustain change.
