The Department of Physics and Astronomy (IFA), Aarhus University, Denmark (www.phys.au.dk) invites applications for a Academic Employee position within laser technology and optoelectronics.

Your profile

The candidates are expected to have experience in laser-based research, and in the development of electronics and optoelectronics components for experiments using laser technology. We are seeking enthusiastic candidates with a keen interest in setting up new laser systems and learning new techniques. More specifically, the candidate should have a solid background in operating CW laser systems including control of output powers, polarization states, linewidths and frequencies, as well as an understanding of analogue and digital electronics for experimental control. Relevant methodology includes laser frequency stabilization using optical frequency combs, rubidium atomic clocks, and GPS synchronization.

Applicants should hold a relevant Master’s degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related field, and be able to document relevant experience as outlined above. A PhD is considered an advantage.

Your tasks include

  • Running and maintaining optical frequency combs

  • Servicing existing CW laser systems including commercial external cavity diode laser systems, TiSa-lasers, fiber-lasers and quantum cascade lasers

  • Developing (electro-)optical setups for controlling the frequency and shaping the power level of CW laser

  • Help setting up experimental control systems based on the platform ARTIQ https://m-labs.hk/artiq/artiq/

  • Developing electronics in collaboration with the Department’s electronic workshop

  • Supporting with technical aspects in connection with proposal writing
