Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences invites applications for a part-time (50%) professorship at the Study Programme Virtual Design, Department Building and Design in Kaiserslautern. The position starts on 01.03.2027 and is based at the Kaiserslautern campus.

The candidate should hold a Master’s or equivalent, bring several years of teaching experience, and show a strong portfolio including publications and awards. English-language teaching is expected where possible.

Your Profile

• University degree (Master's, Diploma or comparable) in a subject relevant to the teaching field
• Several years of professional experience in the field of design and a proven reputation through publications and awards
• Work samples that demonstrate a contemporary and critical approach to moving images and technology
• Competence in interdisciplinary cooperation in cross-media design projects in culture, science and business in order to generate knowledge through design
• Proof of analytical and conceptual skills as well as a forward-looking approach to digital methods and technologies in experimental formats and applied problem solving
• Sound knowledge in the areas of 3D animation, real-time applications, visual effects and motion design
• Proof of several years of relevant teaching experience

In interdisciplinary cooperation with the specialists and professors of the Virtual Design degree program, the following tasks are set:

• Teaching and reflecting on narrative forms and possibilities in Animation & Creative Technology
• Supervision of design and production in 3D and spatial computing
• Examining the dynamic development of advanced media technologies such as mixed reality, generative AI, code and virtual production
• Further development of the degree program through critical discourse, experimentation and research

The subject areas are to be represented both in teaching and in applied research. We expect very good didactical skills as well as the willingness to participate in the exchange with our international partner universities and to offer courses in English. In addition, we expect committed participation in teaching basic subjects and possibly giving lectures in related subject areas.

We expect the applicant to integrate themselves well into the existing team both professionally and personally, to get involved in the academic self-administration of our university and to enjoy imparting knowledge from their own professional experience to the students.

The university has a large number of collaborations with universities and research institutions such as Max Planck Institutes and Fraunhofer Institutes as well as companies. Intensifying and expanding these collaborations is highly desired.

Active participation in the university’s research activities is desired. In this context, we strive to increase third-party funding and the number of cooperative doctorates.

We advocate a supervision concept that requires a high level of presence of the teaching staff at the university campus.

German language skills (at least level C1) and English language skills are required. Teaching language ist mainly German.
