Zusammenfassung

KIT invites applications for a senior position in low-temperature solid-state physics, focusing on quantum materials, quantum circuits, and qubit platforms. The role blends experimental work with theory, aiming to advance KIT's research priorities in quantum technologies.

You will contribute to teaching in German in the Bachelor’s program, help shape the KIT Research Focus on Quantum Technologies, and pursue external funding while collaborating across institutes and international consortia.

Aufgaben

  • Develop an innovative research program that complements KIT’s priorities in quantum technologies.

  • Play a key role in strategic development of the KIT Research Focus on Quantum Technologies.
  • Contribute to training in Physics for Bachelor’s and Master’s programs (9 h/week during semester).
  • Engage in knowledge and technology transfer through patents, industry partnerships, or spin-offs.

Jobbeschreibung

Research in the field of low-temperature solid-state physics holds high visibility and strategic relevance at KIT. It currently focuses on quantum materials, quantum circuits, and various qubit platforms, involving close collaboration between experiment and theory. The field is currently evolving dynamically and gaining increasing relevance for future disruptive technologies.

Responsibilities
  • You are highly qualified in the field of experimental low-temperature solid-state physics, with a focus on quantum physics and quantum technologies, and are actively advancing the field.
  • You are developing an innovative research program that complements KIT’s existing research priorities and provides new impetus, for example in the areas of hybrid quantum systems, novel qubit platforms, quantum circuits, quantum sensing, and topologically protected quantum systems.
  • You foresee collaboration with the theoretical research institutes and the Institute for Quantum Materials and Technologies (IQMT) and the institute for Nanotechnology (INT) at KIT, and participate in national and international research consortia.
  • You will play a key role in the overarching strategic development of the KIT Research Focus on Quantum Technologies.
  • You contribute to the foundational training in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in Physics with 9h per week during the semester and help shape the next generation of researchers in the fields of solid-state physics and quantum technologies.
  • You are actively involved in knowledge and technology transfer, for example through patents, industry partnerships, or support for spin-offs.
Qualifications
  • Candidates must hold a doctoral degree, have a track record of outstanding research achievements with international visibility, a proven record of success in securing competitive external funding, and excellent teaching skills.
  • Prospectively, the position includes teaching in German within the Bachelor’s program.

Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 47 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges).

Salary

Salary is governed by the statutory provisions of the State of Baden-Württemberg and comprises the basic salary of salary grade W3. In addition, the granting of performance-related pay components is possible. The family allowance is paid, where applicable, in accordance with civil service law.
