The Study Physician role is a critical position within Clinical Development Inflammation, providing readily available, high-quality medical support and consultancy for global clinical trials. As a qualified and clinically experienced physician, you will contribute to the discovery, development and delivery of innovative medicines for patients and customers while helping to ensure scientific and medical quality throughout trial planning and conduct. In our international environment, you will collaborate with global colleagues and contribute directly to the success of Boehringer Ingelheim.

The Position

The Study Physician role is a critical position within Clinical Development Inflammation, providing readily available, high-quality medical support and consultancy for global clinical trials. As a qualified and clinically experienced physician, you will contribute to the discovery, development and delivery of innovative medicines for patients and customers while helping to ensure scientific and medical quality throughout trial planning and conduct. In our international environment, you will collaborate with global colleagues and contribute directly to the success of Boehringer Ingelheim.

Tasks & responsibilities
  • One of your key responsibilities will be to own the medical content of Clinical Trial Protocols and updates in line with the Trial Design Outline, working with the CTL, CPL, Patient Safety Physician, Medical Writer and other trial and evidence team members to ensure high medical quality and timely delivery of core trial documents and milestones
  • In regard to risk-based quality management, you will define medically relevant critical data and processes, assess associated risks, and establish mitigation and monitoring strategies in the Integrated Quality and Risk Management Plan. As medical co-author of the Clinical Quality Monitoring Plan, you will execute agile and adaptive monitoring using aggregated and near real-time data, proactively address quality issues, and ensure timely mitigation and escalation
  • Moreover, you will provide medical input into Data Management documentation, including eCRF design, CRF completion guidance, the Data Review Plan, automated and manual data checks, laboratory parameter specifications, Data Transfer Agreements and central laboratory alerts. You will also support the definition, review and assessment of important protocol deviations
  • Furthermore, you will be accountable for the medical content of patient information and informed consent materials, the Trial Level Monitoring Manual, Trial Communication Plan, Trial Training Plan and Trial Statistical Analysis Plan. You will contribute to patient narratives, Clinical Trial Report planning and review, regulatory and Ethics Committee or IRB responses, trial newsletters, and scientific publications where applicable
  • In addition, you will provide medical input into study and site feasibility, patient recruitment and retention plans, respond to medical queries from investigators, CROs and sponsor representatives, maintain the trial FAQ, build networks with experts, contribute to site engagement, and deliver medical training during country feasibility activities, investigator meetings and sponsor trainings
  • You will support Endpoint Adjudication, Data Monitoring Committees, Data Safety Monitoring Boards and Steering Committees, as applicable, by presenting the study’s medical content, answering medical questions and helping to ensure high-quality data from a clinical quality monitoring perspective
Requirements
  • Physician (MD), ideally with a medical thesis, trained in a clinical setting and with a minimum of four years of active clinical practice; specialization in Pulmonology, Immunology, Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Rheumatology or Emergency Medicine is desirable
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or a CRO in medical or project management functions, ideally in Clinical Development; specific experience in Inflammation Clinical Development is preferred
  • Ability to communicate directly and concisely and to collaborate effectively with key stakeholders in an international environment
  • Pronounced analytical skills combined with a systematic, well-structured and proactive working style and strong team spirit
  • Pronounced presentation and training skills as well as excellent interpersonal, active listening and influencing skills
  • Ability to use digital technologies to access information, communicate, navigate and learn, and to apply creativity and innovation when solving problems; fluency in written and spoken English
