Jobbeschreibung

Student Assistant (f/m/non-binary) – Support for Hydraulic Pressure Intensifier design and assembly

Chair and Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Systems

Our Profile

The Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Systems (ifas) at RWTH Aachen University is one of the largest institutes of its kind in the world and is involved in research and teaching in all areas of fluid power. Today, in addition to mechanical engineering, it also includes disciplines such as thermodynamics, computer science, control engineering, electrical engineering, tribology and chemistry.

These wide-ranging topics allow you to apply and deepen large parts of the knowledge imparted in mechanical engineering studies and thus establish a practical connection. A friendly, open and helpful interaction between students and academic staff is a particular feature of ifas. In summary, you are offered excellent conditions for personal and professional development.

Your Profile

You bring the following:

  • You are studying at a university or university of applied sciences and are interested or ideally already have previous knowledge in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and hydraulic fittings (thread standards, sealing principles, pressure ratings).
  • Interest in Fluid Power and Hydraulic Systems.
  • A high degree of independence and motivation.
  • You have manual skills or mechanical production skills.
  • Very good language skills in German and/or English.

Advantageous but not necessary are:

  • CAD and design knowledge.
  • FEM Simulation (E.g. Ansys, Abaqus).
  • Previous knowledge of fluid technology.

You are interested in long-term employment. Lower previous knowledge due to a low semester of study is not an obstacle in this context.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

We are developing a hydraulically driven, double-acting pressure intensifier for high-pressure fuel injection applications (up to 700 bar output). The project spans design, simulation, and hands-on prototype manufacturing. Initially, you will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the topic and gradually work independently on practical tasks.

Possible tasks could be:

  • Support in assembly, and fitting of hydraulic system components (cylinders, valves, fittings, tubing/hoses).
  • Assist with CAD updates and, where relevant, basic FEM checks on designed parts.
  • Support with the documentation of results.

You can expect:

  • Varied activities.
  • Practical experience alongside your studies.
  • Exciting insights into the research work.
  • Contributing your own ideas to the project.
  • Flexible working hours (consideration for exams).
