About the role:

Gartner Analysts are industry thought leaders who create must-have insights, market predictions and best practices for a broad range of world-leading organizations. A Senior Director serves as a leader within Gartner’s Business and Technology Insights (BTI) group, establishing oneself as a credible voice within their designated market at local, regional and global levels. Utilizing exceptional research and analytical skills, a Senior Director plays a significant role in producing pragmatic and provocative insights which Gartner clients consume and apply to propel their business toward key objectives. They are a trusted source of advice for clients, reinforcing Gartner’s value every day by engaging them via in-person meetings, virtual meetings, sales support visits and Gartner conferences to discuss complex client challenges and offer appropriate recommendations.

Position Overview:

Gartner’s CIO and AI Leader group is seeking an experienced Analyst to provide thought leadership, research, and advisory services at the intersection of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies to help guide CIOs and AI Leaders. The Analyst will identify emerging cybersecurity trends and vendors, helping client companies be prepared for future threats. The ideal candidate is a former CIO, CISO, or has demonstrable experience working closely with CIOs and AI Leaders, with deep expertise in cybersecurity from both technical and governance perspectives. This role will shape Gartner’s research agenda and client interactions on both how emerging technologies – such as agentic AI, quantum computing, and cloud-native architecture –are reshaping the cybersecurity landscape for enterprise leaders as well as how companies can utilize emerging technologies to protect their organizations.

What you will do:
  • Conduct in-depth research and develop actionable insights on the impact of emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML, quantum, blockchain/tokenization, edge computing) on cybersecurity trends and corporate threat landscapes. Providing CIOs and AI Leaders with best practices on how to safeguard their organizations.
  • Analyze and advise on the impact of emerging technologies on enterprise cybersecurity strategies, architectures, and governance frameworks.
  • Identify emerging security technologies that take advantage of emerging technologies like AI and quantum computing and help CIOs make decisions on future security architecture and governance models. Tracking the vendor landscape for new players.
  • Author research notes, market guides, and strategic frameworks that address the evolving and future needs of CIOs and AI Leaders in cybersecurity and technology risk management.
  • Deliver high-impact presentations, webinars, and client interactions, translating complex technical and governance concepts into strategic, yet actionable, recommendations for C-level audiences.
  • Engage with senior technology executives, vendors, and industry stakeholders to identify market trends, innovation opportunities, and emerging risks.
  • Collaborate with Gartner’s global analyst community to ensure comprehensive coverage and thought leadership across the cybersecurity and emerging technology domains.
  • Provide one-on-one advisory to Gartner clients, supporting their strategic planning, technology selection, and organizational transformation initiatives.
  • Provide high quality and timely content peer review
  • Build credibility as an industry expert to represent Gartner insights, methodology and strategy
  • Actively participate in innovation, ideation, and research discussions and collaborate effectively with peers in the Insights community
  • Identify research process improvements or develop new processes that help the team and BTI provide excellent service delivery
  • Be a mentor and a coach by supporting more junior team members
  • Be client-centric while actively seeking to help clients engage regularly and often with Gartner insights and interactions
What you will need:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the impact of emerging technologies on cybersecurity, including hands‑on experience or research in AI/ML security, quantum‑safe cryptography, or cloud‑native security.
  • Proven experience as a CIO, CISO, or direct advisor to CIOs/AI Leaders in a large enterprise or technology‑focused organization.
  • Deep expertise in cybersecurity, including technical architecture, threat intelligence, risk management, and governance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).
  • Demonstrate executive presence; can immediately establish credibility with executives and additional stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality deliverables
  • Demonstrate excellence in research and writing ability
  • Strong written and verbal proficiency, analytical and presentation skills; ability to engage clients and respond effectively to questions
  • Proficient in analyzing and synthesizing data; can effectively apply patterns and frameworks while drawing and defending conclusions to client challenges
  • Strong communication skills - able to explain complex concepts concisely and simply
  • Subject matter expertise; comfortable presenting at large and small‑scale speaking engagements
  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Deep knowledge of the global and competitive landscape within subject area as well as the interplay in that market
  • Ability to work independently, while also being intrinsically motivated to collaborate across teams and support the workflow of others, in a multicultural global team
  • Learning agile and adept with navigating highly matrixed environments
  • Ability to represent Gartner’s research methodology and strategies effectively at all levels
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% (where applicable)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
