OHB System AG – We.Create.Space in Bremen is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to develop and maintain reusable flight software, refine requirements, and integrate across platforms. You will work in a long-term product team, contributing to the application core lifecycle from requirements to release, with a hybrid on-site/remote setup.

The role emphasizes C/C++ development, model-based design, and cross-platform integration, backed by strong English skills and a passion for space-grade

Embedded Software Engineer (m/f/d)

The software is developed using a model-based software engineering approach and implemented in C.As part of a long-term product team, you will help bring the application core to product-level maturity. You will then maintain and extend it throughout its lifecycle, incorporating experience and new requirements from its use in different satellite projects.

Your Tasks

• Develop and maintain reusable embedded flight software
• Refine software system requirements and translate softwarerequirements and architectural concepts into precise software models
• Develop, review and integrate generated and handwritten C code
• Improve the application core’s architecture, modularity,portability and configurability; refactor, generalise and port existingfunctionality
• Integrate the software on different processor platforms andreal-time operating systems
• Develop automated tests and verify models, generated code andintegrated software
• Analyse defects and deliver controlled corrections and productupdates
• Support product releases, configuration management andqualification activities
• Contribute to modelling guidelines, development methods,toolchains and continuous integration

Your Qualifications

• A degree in computer science, software engineering, electricalengineering, aerospace engineering or a related discipline
• Several years of experience in embedded or real-time softwaredevelopment, with a good understanding of resource-constrained systems andhardware/software interaction
• Strong programming skills in C
• Experience with model-based software design or a stronginterest in developing this expertise
• Understanding of software architecture, modular design andwell-defined interfaces
• Experience with automated testing, debugging and softwareintegration
• An interest in developing and maintaining a reusable softwareproduct over multiple releases
• Very good written and spoken English

Useful Additional Experience

• Experience in some of the following areaswould be helpful, but we do not expect you to bring all of them:
• Modelling and code-generation tools used for embedded software
• First-hand knowledge of Rust and its integration in embedded Capplications
• Verification of consistency between requirements, models,generated code and tests
• Product-line engineering, software platforms or configurablesoftware products
• API design, compatibility management and controlled softwareevolution
• RTEMS, VxWorks, Embedded Linux or another real-time operatingsystem
• LEON, ARM (Zynq/Versal), RISC-V or comparable embeddedprocessor platforms
• Multicore systems, concurrency and deterministic scheduling
• Static analysis, code-coverage analysis and requirements-basedtesting
• ECSS, DO-178 or another regulated software-developmentenvironment
• Spacecraft avionics and on-board communication technologies
• Knowledge of German

Working in the Product Team

You will join a team with long-termresponsibility for the common application core, from requirements to softwaremodels and implementation through integration, qualification, release andmaintenance. The team works closely with satelliteprojects that use and configure the application core. Feedback and newrequirements from these projects are assessed and incorporated into the commonproduct where they provide broader value. This allows improvements made for onemission to benefit future spacecraft while maintaining a stable and controlledproduct baseline. The position is based in Bremen andsupports a hybrid combination of on-site and remote work.
