Zusammenfassung

University Hospital Bonn (UKB) seeks a Software Engineer/Developer to advance software for computational radiology and clinical AI. You will develop backend and frontend components for ADIT and RADIS and collaborate with researchers and clinicians to implement features robustly.

The role is limited to 2 years, offering competitive TV-L EG13 pay, access to powerful computing resources, and opportunities to present at conferences. German B2 and strong English communication are required.

Qualifikationen

  • Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
  • Provide links to open-source contributions (GitHub/GitLab).
  • Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, and/or Rust; web programming experience.
  • Familiarity with Django, pytest, PostgreSQL, Docker, PyTorch advantageous.
  • Knowledge of medical imaging, DICOM, NLP, semantic search, and model fine-tuning is a plus.
  • German language proficiency at B2 level or higher; fluent German in clinical/technical env.
  • Excellent English communication, written and spoken.

The following full-time (38.5 hours/week) position is to be filled as soon as possible in the Division for Computational Radiology & Clinical AI (CCIBonn.ai) of the University Hospital Bonn:

Software Engineer/Developer (m/f/d)

The position is limited to 2 years.

We, at the division for Computational Radiology & Clinical AI (CCIBonn.ai) at the University Hospital Bonn / University of Bonn (PI: Philipp Vollmuth - Full Professor of AI in Medical Imaging), are seeking applications for Software Engineer positions to support our software platform team. Our research group has consistently contributed to leading journals and conferences, and we are developing a range of tools to support our research projects. You can check out our work on our GitHub organizations (OpenRadX and CCIBonn). This opportunity offers a unique chance to work at the forefront of medical AI and contribute to substantial advancement in the medical field. You will be part of a dynamic team that bridges the gap between cutting-edge AI research and clinical application, ensuring that our software tools are robust, efficient, and user-friendly.

Tasks:
  • Develop, test, and maintain software applications for computational radiology and medical AI
  • Program backend and frontend code for tools like ADIT (Automated DICOM Transfer Tool) and RADIS (Radiology Report Archive and Discovery System)
  • Work closely with researchers and clinicians to implement and enhance application features
  • Write technical documentation
Requirements:
  • A master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
  • Documented contributions to open-source projects (own repositories or significant contributions to established projects) are required. Please provide links to relevant GitHub or GitLab profiles in your application
  • Proficiency in web programming and expertise in programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, and/or Rust
  • Experience with tools and frameworks such as Django, pytest, PostgreSQL, Docker, and PyTorch is advantageous
  • Knowledge of medical imaging data, DICOM standards, NLP, full-text search, semantic search, RAG, fine-tuning of deep learning models, and agentic engineering is considered a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • German language proficiency at B2 level or higher is mandatory. Applicants must be able to communicate fluently in spoken and written German in a clinical and technical environment. Applications without demonstrated B2-level proficiency in German will not be considered
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
