Statista in Germany is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain backend services in Kotlin and Python. You will shape scalable event-driven architectures that connect internal systems with CDPs and downstream marketing channels.

You’ll be responsible for reliable data pipelines, collaborating with marketing, data, product, and platform teams to align technical solutions with business goals, while championing observability and best practices.

Qualifikationen

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Java/Kotlin and Python skills.
• Experience designing scalable backend systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Experience with messaging/streaming platforms like Kafka.

Your role

• Take ownership of designing, building, and maintaining backend services in Kotlin and Python to support user data flows.
• Design and optimize scalable event-driven architectures and pipelines connecting internal systems with Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) and downstream marketing channels.
• Build reliable, high-performance processes for collecting, transforming, and activating user data, ensuring accuracy and timeliness for campaigns and analytics.
• Drive technical design decisions, mentor engineers, and promote engineering best practices across the team.
• Collaborate closely with marketing, data, product, and platform teams to align technical solutions with business goals.
• Ensure scalability, reliability, security, and observability through monitoring, logging, testing, and proactive improvements.
• Champion engineering excellence across the software development lifecycle, including architecture, testing, CI/CD, deployment, and maintenance.
• Open-minded about working across different technologies, including frontend development and monolithic applications, based on business needs.
• Comfortable using AI tools in day-to-day software development to improve productivity and code quality.

Your profile

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer.
• Strong programming skills in Java/Kotlin, and Python.
• Strong understanding of relational and non-relational databases.
• Experience designing scalable backend systems and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Experience working with messaging and streaming platforms such as Kafka
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and business teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) and the MarTech ecosystem (e.g. Braze, Salesforce, Segment, Hightouch, etc.).
• Experience working with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Amazon Redshift.
• (Big plus) Experience designing and building AI-powered workflows, including AI agents, LLM integrations, or developer productivity tools.
