Proxima Fusion in Munich is seeking a software engineer to design and scale the platform supporting stellarator design teams, enabling simulation, optimization and data workflows with robust cloud infrastructure. • Design and develop a platform that helps simulation, optimization and stellarator design teams to overcome their challenges and achieve their goals more efficiently.
• Champion the Cloud Infrastructure Operations.
• Manage general cloud infrastructure (including IaaC, permission management, and cloud efficiency).
• Support the democratization of cloud computing (e.g. K8s, Ray, Dask, Docker, PEX).
• Unify and streamline the development experience (including CI/CD, Devcontainers, and monorepos).
• Improving observability.
• Manage Distributed Computing and High-Performance Computing clusters for research, stellarator design and optimization.
• Raise the bar in our cross-org DevOps practices and optimize our DORA metrics.

Proxima Fusion is Europe’s fastest-growing fusion company and the continent’s best-funded fusion player, as well as the first spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP). Backed by over €650M and powered by a growing team across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford, we are developing the hardware and infrastructure needed to deliver the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant.

Our concept advances the most mature fusion technology out there, the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, through two next-generation machines: Alpha and Stellaris. Our work combines stellarator optimization, advanced computation, machine learning, and high-temperature superconducting magnets to unlock higher-performance designs that were previously out of reach.

WHO YOU ARE

• We’re seeking a software engineer with a strong foundation in computer science and an understanding or hands‑on experience with DevOps, CloudOps, or Platform engineering practices.

• Familiar with the development and management of scalable cloud infrastructure, ideally as used in science, ML or other data processing‑heavy use cases.

• Experienced in end-to-end/full-stack system design, ideally within an environment supporting physics, engineering, or AI teams.

• Proficient in Python and Linux.

• Driven to solve complex problems with simple solutions and a desire to contribute to clean energy.
