Contabo GmbH in Munich is seeking a Senior Network Engineer for a full-time, permanent role. You’ll own the network backbone, design, build, and operate complex network, server, and security systems from day one.

You’ll monitor performance, manage IPAM, coordinate with external providers, and work with Platform Engineering on Kubernetes networking and BGP EVPN fabric. This is a remote-first role with hybrid or on-site options.

Qualifikationen

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with complex, scalable networks and fabric infrastructures.
• Expertise in WAN connectivity, data centre peering, uplink management, VPN, and IPv6.
• Strong security administration and DDoS mitigation knowledge with monitoring tools.
• Good scripting and automation skills in Ansible, Terraform, Python, or similar.
• Fluent English and German language skills; able to explain complex topics to non‑technical audiences.

We are looking for a full-time, permanent Senior Network Engineer to start as soon as possible. We live remote-first, but you have the freedom to choose whether you want to work hybrid or completely on-site due to your proximity to one of our locations (Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Munich).

Contabo Group operates one of Europe's largest cloud infrastructure platforms, with data centres across Europe and beyond. As our new Senior Network Engineer, you take on the network backbone that thousands of customers rely on every day, with real ownership from day one.

Right now, the biggest milestone on your plate is the build out of our new AI data centre. You inherit a fully designed Leaf-Spine architecture built on Arista EOS, BGP EVPN, and VXLAN, take ownership of it, refine it where it needs refining, and drive everything from commissioning through to stable production operations. Alongside that, you keep our existing LTG infrastructure running reliably: you design, build, and operate complex network, server, and security systems, analyse and resolve faults, and harden our network security through scrubbers, firewalls, ACLs, and NAC.

You monitor network traffic and infrastructure performance, extrapolate the KPIs that matter to management, and coordinate with external service providers and remote hands across the globe. You keep our network diagrams, runbooks, change logs, and system documentation in good shape, and you work closely with Platform Engineering on Cilium BGP peering, Kubernetes node network configuration, and IPAM, acting as the ongoing interface between NetOps and Platform.

You join a self-organising, agile team that owns its problems end to end, from analysis to resolution, without micromanagement. On top of that, you will have real room to grow into infrastructure automation, DDoS mitigation with Nokia Deepfield, observability, and BGP EVPN fabric engineering, alongside plenty of national and international project work.

You report directly to our Head of Network and become the permanent owner of everything networking related at Contabo Group, Blue and Black alike. Communication, team orientation, problem solving, and analytical thinking matter just as much here as deep technical expertise, since you will regularly work across teams and explain complex topics to people outside networking.

• minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with complex, scalable networks and fabric infrastructures on Cisco and/or Arista, ideally with real Leaf-Spine and BGP EVPN VXLAN exposure
• strong expertise in WAN connectivity, data centre peering, uplink management, VPN, and IPv6
• strong expertise in security administration and DDoS mitigation (e.g. Nokia Deepfield, Aurologic), plus solid monitoring skills with tools like Grafana, Check_MK, or Zabbix
• good scripting and automation skills with Ansible, Terraform, Python, or similar
• strong analytical and strategic thinking, paired with clear, confident communication
• a results-driven, hands‑on mindset with a high standard of performance, customer orientation, and composure under pressure
• genuine team spirit, reliability, and a self‑driven way of working that thrives without micromanagement
• experience with Network Access Control solutions, BGP Flowspec, virtualisation (Proxmox), and IPAM systems such as NetBox
• strong conflict‑handling skills, a knack for building contacts across teams, and openness to change
• a basic understanding of Kubernetes networking, ideally paired with an Arista certification (or equivalent Cisco knowledge), a completed IT apprenticeship or equivalent, and German language skills alongside excellent English
