Flix is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join our customer-facing Search team in the Demand Division. You will own backend systems powering the booking funnel, processing millions of search requests daily across Web and App.

You'll work with Micronaut and Spring Boot on JVM, in a cross-functional squad, shipping scalable, testable code and shaping engineering practices in a hybrid Berlin office environment.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 7+ years of commercial experience as a Java Engineer.
• Strong experience with Java/JVM-based frameworks such as Micronaut or Spring Boot.
• Experience with Kubernetes and AWS.
• Experience with database management systems such as MySQL or similar relational databases.
• Solid experience with distributed messaging systems (Kafka or others).

Aufgaben

• Be at the forefront of Flix's booking funnel, handling millions of search requests per day from Web, App, and external partners.
• Generate the inventory to allow customers to reach any place on our network (3,000+ destinations in 40+ countries).
• Write SOLID, maintainable, flexible, testable, and scalable code.
• Design components and integrations within team scope, considering scalability, maintainability, and reliability.
• Lead adoption of better engineering practices and adapt workflows for team efficiency.
• Prioritise and plan tech debt pay-down with the team; drive strategies to reduce recurring debt.
• Ensure team code is observable and design monitoring strategies for new components.
• Support our CI/CD environment and produce a positive impact with each release.
• Support our agile, flexible, team-oriented development to bring the search product to the next level.

As a Search team, our goal is to simplify the user experience and provide enough information — without overwhelming the user — to help customers find their perfect trip easily. We achieve this by analyzing anonymous behavior data and conducting regular user research, ensuring we focus on good solutions for real user issues. Looking ahead, we aim to make even greater use of our big data to enhance the user experience with relevant statistics and insights at the right moment in the journey.

You’d join an autonomous, cross-functional squad — a Product Owner, backend and frontend engineers, plus data & UX partners and principal engineers who’ve built this engine at scale. About You

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Systems, or relevant industry experience
• 7+ years of commercial experience as a Java Engineer
• Strong experience with Java/JVM-based frameworks such as Micronaut or Spring Boot
• Solution-oriented attitude with a focus on materializing the business vision through technical means
• Experience with k8s and AWS
• Experience with database management systems such as MySQL or similar relational databases
• Solid experience with distributed messaging systems (Kafka or others)

Nice to Have:

• Experience with OpenSearch / Elasticsearch
• Experience with Redis and Terraform
• Familiarity with CI/CD best practices (unit and integration testing, GitLab CI)
• Experience working with scalable systems handling large volumes of requests/data
