Fluence is seeking a Senior IT/OT Engineer to design, integrate, and implement cybersecurity and networking for BESS projects across the EMEA region.

You will lead IT/OT infrastructure, collaborate with project teams, field engineers, and customers to deliver secure, scalable network solutions for utility-scale energy storage systems.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer engineering, IT or CS
• Minimum 5 years OT/networking experience in power utility or related industry with EMS/SCADA
• Expert in OSI layer models and network configurations
• Expert in remote access VPN, site-to-site VPN, routers, firewalls, switches (Cisco + industrial equipment), SD-WAN, Meraki
• Experience with Linux, Python and Bash scripting, GitHub
• Knowledge of AWS, OpenStack and Docker
• Experience with high voltage equipment incl. inverters, transformers, I/O racks, telecoms and controllers
• Solution-oriented mindset and strong communication skills
• English fluency; German or other languages beneficial

Aufgaben

• Serve as SME for Cybersecurity, Network, Architecture and devices.
• Lead integration of Fluence BESS control with TSO SCADA; configure network interfaces and cybersecurity.
• Document existing network infrastructure and cybersecurity strategies.
• Guide field engineers during commissioning and testing across network topics.
• Address network/cybersecurity challenges and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Interface with client and sub-contractors to ensure network compliance.
• Develop and execute FAT/SAT tests to reduce commissioning time.
• Stay updated on Fluence products and network practices across sites.
• Maintain change control documentation and reporting to leadership.
• Travel across EMEA for project support

Job Description

Role Overview

As a Senior IT/OT Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, integration, and implementation of Fluence's Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) network and cybersecurity architecture across EMEA projects. Acting as the technical lead for IT/OT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and communication systems, you will ensure seamless integration between Fluence control systems and customer/Transmission System Operator (TSO) SCADA environments.

You will collaborate closely with project teams, customers, field engineers, and external stakeholders to develop secure, reliable, and scalable network solutions that support the successful delivery and operation of utility-scale energy storage systems. The position requires deep expertise in industrial networking, cybersecurity, SCADA communications, and OT environments, combined with strong problem-solving and leadership skills.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of the energy transition, supporting innovative energy storage projects while driving best practices in network design, cybersecurity, and operational technology across Fluence's growing portfolio. The position involves regular travel throughout the EMEA region to support project execution, testing, commissioning, and customer engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Leading the Project team on realization of the Project specific requirements with existing functionalities: serve as the Subject Matter Expert regarding Cybersecurity, Network, Architecture and associated devices.
• Lead the integration of the Fluence BESS control system into the Transmission System Operator (TSO) SCADA systems: lead the Network configuration, communication interfaces, cybersecurity requirements, to meet TSO / Customer requirements.
• Develop and maintain documentation of existing Network infrastructure including hardware, protocols, communication links and cybersecurity strategies.
• Lead and guide field engineers to find solutions to problems as they arise during commissioning/testing of a system, in all network-related subjects.
• Involved in central network/cybersecurity for energy storage solutions, including guidance, evaluation and analysis of network/cybersecurity challenges. Ensuring network and communication security vulnerabilities are acknowledged and communicated to affected stakeholders.
• Manage interface to Client and sub-contractor to ensure Networks compliance and lead concept during Tender and Project Execution phase.
• Develop standardized test procedures and execute tests (FAT / SAT) to reduce commissioning time, and perform testing, including involvement in hands on lab testing during evaluations of prototype systems.
• Keep current with all Company products, developments, and projects as they apply to the Network at both site and enterprise levels.
• Maintain strict management of change control procedures and documentation.
• Remain current on industry best practices and updated technology to ensure the company is provided world-class Network and Cybersecurity practices.
• Support company strategy and provide relevant reporting and updates to Company leadership as needed.
• Develop and recommend performance management and feedback to current Control System technical support KPI’s.
• Executing tasks related to Fluence’ safety KPIs
• Travel throughout EMEA

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in computer engineering, information technology, computer science (or equivalent)
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in OT / Networking with a power utility or related industry and direct experience in the electricity transmission/distribution sector with EMS/SCADA systems.
• Expert of OSI layer models and experience in deploying network configurations.
• Expert in remote access VPN, site-to-site VPN, Routers, Firewalls, Switches (Cisco + industrial equipment), SD-WAN, Meraki.
• Experience in Linux based systems and commands, High-level programming languages such as Python and shell/bash scripting as well as with Github.
• Knowledge about AWS, Openstack, Docker.
• Expert on the design, operation and maintenance of high voltage electrical equipment including but not limited to inverters, transformers, I/O racks, telecommunications, and controllers.
• Solution-orientated mindset
• Good communication skills
